There are relay harness kits that you could buy for Headlights/HID. They work by using the origional switch/harness as a trigger for a relay which send power to the ballast/bulb directly from the battery.

The theory is that by shortening the wire distance between the ballast/bulb and power source (batt) you decrease resistance and minimize votage lost that you'd get with the OEM wiring harness. These relay/wiring kits also utalize a lower AWG wire (thicker) that increase current handling potential over OEM.

While this is true IMO these relay/harness kits are only useful on traditional Halogen setup where the brightness of the bulb is directly proportional to the voltage and current flowing theough the filiment. In HID setups where a ballast is used to transform the car's votage (~12V) into a high (~23000V) votage for the ARC tube present in the HID bulb, the minimal voltage lost by the vehicle's OEM wiring harness is negatable and the higher AWG wire are unnecessary because HID use significantly less power (wattage) than a OEM Halogen setup.

are you sure? because a lot of luxury cars and crap come with stock HIDs. but i think they all have projectors in them.

dude read my post again, note I said aftermarket HID kits and halogen parbolic reflector.

OEM HID are DOT approved beause the D2S projector or the D2R reflector housing is designed to be used with HID bulbs.

Has anyone Retro fitted projector lamps into a JDM black housing with HIDs? Thats what i ultimately want to do, but man the task seems difficult and expensive.
