what's the point? the point is, don't bother saying something if you can't back it up. again, i'm not a critic - i'm SKEPTICAL. do you understand the difference between the two terms? if not, i know www.dictionary.com can provide you with that difference.

now. calm the hell down, and learn from this experience. if you heard something once, ask about it - don't present it as absolute fact unless you can back it up. that's the way of the world...i take it you're not used to the real world yet?

oy...some of you newer folks really need to learn the difference between someone directly attacking you, and someone asking for proof before they believe it.

I dont really see where he was presenting it as absolute fact. He said "well they are 4 engines, arent they?", (So he DID ask about it) and then he said that it was what he had heard....i dont see why everyones jumping on him here..you can be sick of the misinformation all you want, but no where was he coming off as being an expert on the matter.

And when someone corrected him, he admitted he was wrong...TWICE. Lot more than most on these boards can do...he was attacked, (yes, saying he was talking outta his ass) and he stood up for himself. Go him.

What i've observed is that Toyota is always conservative in approach. It never dives into any enterprise at first hand. Rather, it waits and obeserves the outcomes of other manufacturers' hardwork that if it really pays them off or not. If yes then Toyota revs up its R&D to bring something better than rival's. Otherwise, not.
Honda gave VTEC first (even thought Toyota had TVIS but was recultant to market it internationally), then other manufacturers gave goodies like AirBags and ABS before Toyota. In the time being Toyota sat down and observed if they work pays off.
Just see that fact that, Toyota has been there for ages, but it never developed Lexus, until lately and before that it just saw the outcome of top $$$ mercs and bimmers. But when Toyota dipped its toes in the market in the form of Lexus...it was a one off! Lexus has strong sales and has gained a reputation which Infiniti and Acura even combined have not been able to gain. This maybe controversial, but is just my observation...so don't take it as final!

    well...

    happy new year guys...

    been away for a bit...

    good to be back...

    GETTING BACK ONTO TOPIC...

this brings to light my original post about corollas not being too "popular"

not in sales... but as to why the corolla hasn't been successful in our sport compact genre...

let's face it... japan HAS had performance versions (levin, trueno with high output engines)...

with so many sold in the usa, how come it's not so common to see other corollas? civics were the same here... crappy/low output engines, until in the mid 90s when the b16 was finally made available in the del sol...

people did the research... found they could just drop a b16 into their car...
and the civic grew in popularity in ALL forms of motorsport - from drag to autocross to road racing...

where's the corolla in all this? has it been toyota's stupidity at not marketing a version for our market? or campaigning one in racing series?

people need to take the corolla racing...
it has to be visible to a mass of people...
that garners interest in trying to attain similar performance in their own cars...
this starts a trend to becoming more popular...

and i'm gonna be part of that catalyst...
when this autocross season starts in april!

    WHO'S WITH ME?????

Toyota can actually conquer the whole of Japan. They have everything it takes to build cars that look good, drive fast and last long. If they finally match or suprass Honda in the performance segment, the car industry there can gradually become a monopoly.

But still they dont have their own factory! What i mean to say is that in Japan they just get hold of the parts from different manufacturers and just assemble them...unlike Mitsubishi who developed their factory for making every nut and bolt and is now bankrupt! Surely the management team at Toyota don't seem to lack grey matter somehow...

Outsourcing lets you specialize in making the car, instead of making every little piece that goes into the car. Matter of fact, my uncles ran a business that used to supply Ford with the bumper for the F-150.

I guess ordering all those bits and pieces turns out to be better than manufacturing by themselves. :)
