You can see the cd spinning but from the sounds it is making I'm guessing this is the reader resetting itself 3 times when attempting to read the discs. I'm wondering if this sounds like the reader is jammed up, if the radio just needs to be replaced or what. If anyone has experienced this before please tell me what the solve is if you were able to fix it.

bad motor? i had an issue with a sega dreamcast. The disc would spin slowly and it would look like the laser was moving. The disc would not spin any faster so the console thought nothing was in the drive. replaced the motor and it worked.

BUT then again, 2 completely different players.

and nice, still using the oem radio like me

Does it display an error message on the display?

No errors displayed. I'll get a cleaning disk tomorrow to see if that will get the reader to work. If it's a part failure then I'll either get a similar radio since they're cheap or just get a aftermarket USB radio and get rid of all my CDs. I'm thinking about getting this radio below since it will match the interior lights.

What I don't know is if it will mount flush like the current oem radio does or if it will stick out 1/2" further like I have seen with some aftermarket radios in these cars which I wouldn't care for. The oem radio is 6 1/2" long and the Sony is 7" long.

if you are worried that it wont sit flush you can drill a new hole on your bracket like this...

I had done this to a friends car, sure it does not let you use all 4 holes but it sits fine without rocking back n forth.

or you can see other ppl head unit, here is my headunit without the hole drilling...might have to do it to set it back a bit.

Most aftermarket decks sit out a little bit so it's easier to pop the face off.

Thanks c. It actually doesn't look bad since it's the same color as the dash.

Ah good point I hadn't thought of Mack.

Here's the before and after pictures. I don't know why the right dash looks different in the pics because it looks the same as the rest of the dash to the eye. I've confirmed the CD player doesn't work after trying to clean the lens so a replacement will be needed but at least I now know what this setup will look like in my car if I get another oem cd receiver.

Instead of keeping the tape player up top and putting the cd one in the bottom, why not just put a CD player in place of the tape deck and keep your storage?
