Re: TRD spoiler on my corolla?!?!?

If you are in SoCal and your corolla is silver, we could just trade the trunk lid.

But show us which TRD spoiler you are looking for first if you have any picture of it.

What kind of modification do you think it will require other then filling the old holes and drilling new ones?

I was planning to get the celica spoiler for a while, but...

what is the clearance when opening the trunk? does it hit the window? It's really tall.

I was planning on building an adapter board to use the stock mounting points.

Im going to go by a dealer today and pose the questions of clearance and easability when installing the wing and see wat they say..thanks.

Somebody should try making a template out of cardboard to check the clearance. Here's the dimensions:

    Width: 18.75"
    Length: 53"
    Height: 10"
Bolt to Bolt (Front) : 36.5"
Bolt to Bolt (Rear) : 35.5"
Front Bolt to Rear Bolt: 3.5"
    Number of Bolts:4

So, I suggest somebody makes a cardboard stick 10.5" tall and stick that to the trunk at the foreward most position of the current spoiler. If it clears...[IMG]

I figure that if you're going to have a spoiler at all, make it huge. Otherwise, it's just a pain to keep clean, and offers no performance gain at all. These decklid, and small spoilers like the stock one are pretty useless.

If I get the celica spoiler I might modify it to have adjustable downforce. That would be really useful.

Alrite, just measured it with the trunk open at its highest point...the lowest point on the current spoile to the back window is 9" clearance...

Do you mean from the trunk itself? or the existing spoiler? Sorry, I may have given confusing instructions earlier
btw: the stock spoiler sits 3 inches above the trunk based on info from spoilerdepot.

If it's 9" from the trunk to the window, it will not fit.
If it's 9" from the spoiler to the window, it will fit. That's 12" from the trunk.

Thats ok..I actually did it from the top of the spoiler itself...so maybe it would fit...b/c from the trunk itself to the window it comes out to about 11 1/4

What performance gain do you get!!!? Its a front wheel drive car? All it would cause is a performance loss. Remember unibody car... rear goes down and the front goes up. That means less traction in the front causing more airflow underneath the body like a wall.... less gas mileage loss in speed. Now to over come that problem add an air dam in the fron causeing frontal downward force to equal out the difference in lift. Elementary my dear Watson. Now you have a car that makes more sense. Plus you'll never be going 130MPH to make use of this cause highways are 70mph so all you have is a air blockage in the rear so you get again less gas milleage. So if you are out to get less speed, less gas mileage, and shitty looks go right on ahead.

Well Im not trying to be ricey, just produce a nice look. Some people have their opinions, and we appreciate you sharing...Im not looking for a performance gain on a COROLLA. Anyways, I was thinking of going carbon fiber..they have a TRD style w/ LED Carbon Fiber which would look nice on my white rolla w/ a carbon fiber hood and carbon fiber body kit. We'll see how it pans out.

How about a PTG (Prototype Technologies Group - BMW Race car builder) carbon-fiber (wing) spoiler? It's race proven from E36 M3's, but unfortunately they're rare and if you do find one, it'll set you back about $2000-5000.

Now that's a big-wing spoiler that has purpose!

Here's some pictures of the current PTG E46 M3.

Proven to produce extra downforce on the rear axle. Of course to generate the downforce you'd have to be travelling in excess of 100mph. What I'm implying is that the PTG "wing" is functional as well as cosmetic. Most "wings" are simply cosmetic, since they're as torsionally stiff as a overcooked noodle. Just drive behind the typical "ricer" car with a big wing. You'll see it vibrating and flexing as the car is moving. Not to mention that those"wings" are heavy.
