looks like the cam broke at a weak point due to how the FE cams mesh together.

I would be more concerned about what actually caused the break -- I say this because it had to have twisted at the gear and not at the cam for that to have happened. It looks more like a "shear" than a break.

Further, I know you're using GZE pistons -- the cutout angles between the valves and the pistons aren't the same, you should check to ensure you have good compression across all 4 cylinders. There is a chance a valve bent by cranking the engine (doubtful) with 3 out of 4 cylinders valves not moving -- there's a chance one was open fully and a piston met it. (if you've previously done a test to ensure that the motor is non interference then this wouldn't be a problem). Yes, an engine can run with a bent valve.

Also, in reference to the previous post -- the amount of money you make greatly depends on what the cost of living is in that area. If you make $50,000 a year but the average cost of living (due to housing, etc) is say $40,000 a year then you're not doing so great (not directing this at anyone....). For instance, if I made what I make in Texas I'd be the rich guy on the street. Where I live it's just average money.

you make valid points.:D i do live in texas:D and i do alright. i have a degree but i choose to work in another field outside so i can live the lifestyle I choose.:D i could make more money but i make enough and its not worth getting stuck inside a building all day.

as far as the cam goes i would imagine it was just a poor casting that lead to its demise.

also i would love to talk to you about how you got your ge head to run on your fe electronics and your distributor.
