Saw this on a chinese corolla forum.
I'll try my best to translate it.

DIY thicken aluminum gasket for 93-97 rolla (I believe it works for other cars too)

Used 1cm thick aluminum plate to cut a gasket by a friend. Mid-range feel so smooth, and better throttle response.


Was scared that the intake manifold will hit something (引擎貍M油軌, I dunno what the hack it is in english) so I just used a 1cm thick aluminum plate. Found out that within 1.7cm will do just fine. Anything over it will hit something.

why the hack they make that?
Theory: By doing this, you can increase the volume of the intake manifold so that more air can be "stored" there. That can increase the throttle response.

Thats close to 11/16" thick. You'd need someone with a water jet or laser to cut that.
It would make it easy if you had an autocad template already made to just give to the shop.

i could make on in school, i use AutoCAD everyday, that and prodesktop

i'd like to do that...except that the allen key bolts are stripped on my intake, so that will never come apart

can you get the same results from using 5 layers of manifold gaskets stacked on each other?

How thick is the stock gasket? 1mm or so? You migh need like 20 of them which is too expensive =(

oohhh.... didn't know that. man so u gotta cad it and get it milled. well whoever does decide to do it, try to start off a group buy or something.

For the 01-02 engines I know for sure that you would run into a few more issues than just slapping in in there. The T/B is mounted to the engine block, and you would need to figure out a new mounting point for that. You may also need longer bolts. That was just a quick inspection, there's probably a couple other little things to be worked out. It's probably not worth the effort on those engines.
