I avoid 1st gear downshifts at more than 10 mph.. takes too long to blip the engine up to the correct mesh rpm since there is such a ratio difference between 1st and 2nd.

Well, it's ultimately up to you alone. A fast Corolla in my mind does not exist, mind you I have ridden in a full built turbo car myself. I didn't find it nearly as fast as my friend's stock WRX. I do encourage tuning. I just don't want to get too carried away if the car is an econobox.

fun = fast. the corolla can be fast too because its lightweight and it will happen to my corolla, eventually :)

i thought this website was for corolla enthusiasts. if you dont want to try with your corolla then by all means..but dont try to sway me or any other members to do the same thing just because its a corolla and "it will never happen."

Ok, let me make a correction. You can make a Corolla "quick" but not "fast". Fast is reserved for high end high horsepower cars from the factory. The actual sports couped and sedans designed to go fast. In order for a Corolla to become fast, it would need a drastic transition which would even make it a Corolla anymore. I'm talking about motor or drivetrain transplants.

I don't get it. When someone is still waiting to improve a car like a corolla, people try to say it's not worth it or something similar but when you see a fast corolla, it receives a lot of compliments and is cheered on and receives requests for further updates to see how it turns out.

fast....quick...... it's all the same to me.

i dont see how a "transplant" is not considered a rolla anymore. you still started with a corolla and you still wanted to make the car as fast as possible and you did whatever it took to make your "corolla" badge (on the outside) to go fast. when you have a car thats going fast on the street (with a swapped motor), are you gonna say "wow that's a fast [insert swapped motor's make here]? you're gonna say whatever badge you see on the outside, of course. i dont even know why this has gotten so technical about what's a corolla or not.

what's the point of adding 3-15hp? you can barely feel that, if at all. just my opinion..

Adding large amounts of power to the Corolla is expensive and definitely not cost effective. That's my whole argument. I want a better platform to spend same upgrade money on.

700HP eh? I still think its rubbish. Oh well.. I couldnt see what kind of engine was in that car though. My thought is you can keep a corolla a corolla if you stick with Toyota Engines. If you get away from a toyota engine, it's just not right. You lose the essence of toyota corolla. Its like putting a SR20DET in a Corolla. Great power boosting up to 500hp but a corolla with a 1JZ would feel more like a corolla to me. oh yeah and that 700hp corolla, looked like only the shell of the car remained. i'm sure to sustain 700hp you would have had to completely change the internals of the car..

So if you were to put the shell of a Ferrari on your car, it becomes a Ferrari since that's on the outside? Like DrunkSaru said, it's the motor and the chassis that is the essence of the car. Change any of those and the car is no longer a Corolla. Turbo and supercharging would still keep it a Corolla. That would the only way you could make a quick Corolla. Not fast, just quick.

yeah, 700hp corolla!! haha. have you ever been in a 700hp corolla? have you ever seen a 700hp corolla? you or i don't have to see one or be in one to know how it runs.

i'll tell you how it runs. we give it a little gas, lift off the clutch, and BAM!!! SNAP!! There go your axles.
