planning to get a new headunit

    Question
i'm planning to get a new headunit (the one i have right now sucks)

i dont ask for much, i just need a headunit that has AUX so i can plug in my ipod, and also be able to play CDs, radio

just wondering, how much should be a decent price? dont wanna get ripped off on eBay

P.S. i dont care if its used or new

i saw this, what do you guys think?

I wouldn't get anything other than Alpine. If you get a cheap no brand headunit, you'll end up having to get another one sooner or later. You don't want to skimp on it unless you don't plan on keeping the car very long.

don't waste your money on the deck you found on ebay.

i recently replaced my fried deck with this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...d=1166840602501

it's a great unit, and well worth the money. if you can't afford this or something similar (Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Clarion), don't bother wasting the dough. don't get no-name decks, don't get Jenson or Sony decks, and you'll be significantly happier.

hahaha i can vouch for not gettin Sony decks. their built-in sound optimizers are so raspy and you can hear the cheapness.

i have an alpine deck now and it treats me good even though its not even near the latest model out.

Nice unit. I prefer Alpine, but all of those listed by falnfenix are great. Don't go cheap. You'll regret it.

i prefer Alpine as well, but i went for something cost-effective in my search for a viable replacement. couldn't afford another AVIC D-series deck, couldn't find something similar to that Kenwood for the price i paid.

I'll throw another vote for alpine. A buddy of mine has one in his S-10 Extreme, that damn thing made my ears ring for two days!!! Of course it helps since the extended cab part has been filled with two 12" subs and a pair of amps. This guy does not screw around with electronics, even his boat has a hard hitting system. We are the most popular boat on the beach :D

Are you looking for hard hitting sound or are you going for just a decent system to listen to music on while cruzing around??

When you get your Alpine, be sure to invest in an iPod interface adapter too. Then you can sync your iPod. :D

Try Craigslist. Also check out your local audio shops. They might have closeout sales and clearances since it's after Christmas.

Pioneers are ok but still don't outperform Alpine.

guys whats the stock unit for 93 geo prizms? couldnt find much on the net, im lookin uo upgrade but nothin serious, just want something better than the stock unit, the speakers are barely makin it through lol
i dont wanna get a head untt, i put in a cd player and loose the caette player, i play my ipod using the casette player with the wire that comes out to the ipod lol
so most likely look for new rear and front speakers with a lil oomph in em

If it's anything like the Corollas, then it's only good for around 10W/RMS, which is crap. Upgrading speakers without upgrading the headunit itself will still produce crappy sounding music. I would do both at once.

Cassette decks went out just like the big hair bands of the 80s.
No highs, no lows, gotta be Bose. They make over-hyped crap.

Stick with Alpine (of the olden days) or a Pioneer Premier unit.
