Um the way my car was dropped all the way, I would need a long ass ramp for my car to get high enough for me to go under... so I don't think so.

The ramp Idea is a good one though

i have a friend with an integra that's dropped pretty low. the lumber thing works for him. sometimes... i would lift the car a bit (by the front bumper)... just lift it quickly and he jams the floor jack in! hahaha.

haha man that's funny. I guess you guess just got skill with lumber I don't think lifting up a fiberglass bumper would be a good Idea for me though. Thing will crack and snap instantly.

Well, you can't really blame walmart. They prolly didn't want to be liable if something was to happen to your car if it didnt go up on the ramp correctly. But I do agree that they should've reconsidered after you told them you had been there before and that you had no problems clearing the lift. All in all, I don't think you can blame anyone, just go to another place if the service sucks. No point in getting serviced there if you don't like the service right?

How much are walmart oil changes? I don't know about having them work on my car, the same guy doing my oil change today might be mopping the floors on aisle 6 tomorrow.

Just to point out something. They don't use lifts when changing oil. It's like what they do at the dealer. The car stays flat on the ground and drives over these railing thats no more then 2 inches tall. Think of rails at automatic carwashes, but it goes at the middles of that car. There's a stairway that goes below ground so mechanics can go under that car. So basically here's what I'm talking about to clarify things.

I'm not really worried cause their liable when they start working on the car. Also I'm trying to be cheap so I get save all my extra money for my engine swap plan. Oil change was only 17 bucks with filter.

hmm, off topic, but i got new tires on my car today, and they went to do a road test with it. well, comin outta the shop its like an uphill to get onto the road again, and the fucker drivin the car wasnt braking, he was burnin up my clutch stayin on the incline. half clutch and gassin it. maaan. i was getin pissed. on top of that, he cut across the median that says DO NOT ENTER... then sped off like a bat outta hell. i understand i do stupid shit like that, but NEVER with someone elses car.

after he did the roadtest when he was done, same shit. i got pissed to the point bitched at the guy behind the counter at it, and he gave me half off my alignment... maaan.

Yea reason why I dont go back to Toyota for anything.
Last time they did it, the guy decided to test my low profile tires but he first had to warm them up. Then they wanted to deny it was my car, I know what my car sounds like I walked into the garage, snatched the keys from them, got into my car and dove off.

But anyway, I am not dropped that much and most places will not touch my car and I need a alignment really badly.

It's probably just that my hydraulic jack is too high. I know they make real low ones but usually theyre expensive. Maybe shops have those?

I have been reading some of this posts and I am truly shocked. Let me reiterate myself. I have worked at two places where they change oil and I can honestly say I would never take my car to something other than a dealership or your own garage. And changing your oil has very little to do with being lazy. It takes all of 15 minutes, 40 extra bucks (the ramps and wrench), and if you buy in bulk, 3 dollars worth of supplies.

For the sake of you car do it yourself. I wasn’t allowed to get my license, before I could prove to my dad I could change the fluids in my car and my brake pads.

hahahaha, why not anywhere else but a dealership???

i mark the oil filter to make sure they change it, and sometimes, ill stand outside the garage to watch em pump in the new oil...

i used to be a porter for ford, and the mechanics hated it when pple watched them work. but, i know why pple do watch.

Screw dealership or any other place thats not my buddy's garage. Hell my alignment is gonna cost 80 bucks roughly cause no one wants to do one on a lowered car

Yea mines will not allow me, so I bought that Fram Sure Drain and that helped, I just cant spill any oil.

As far as alignment, NTB will charge me 100 bucks to do it with my rims and 70 with my steelies.

go buy one of 2 styles of jacks.....

cheaper:
big, heavy hydraulic jack (70+lbs)... find a low profile one (mine goes down to 3.5")

more expensive:
smaller, aluminum race hydralic jack (40+lbs)..... again, most are low profile, find the lowest

both can easily be found for under $200.... i got my low profile jack for $60 (3 1/2 ton)

that all being said, you could pretty much reach the oil drain plug w/o having to lift the car.... tricky part would be getting the oil catch can underneath

Walmart automotive "experts" are about as smart as the dumb people who come into my work..... they told some customer of ours that he needed a new alternator when the battery was obviously bulged and when tested showed to have a dead cell..... that was after their testing.... I wouldn't trust them to touch my car, let alone do any sort of "work" to it

and, in my opinion.... if you're a bit afraid to do your own oil changes, then you shouldn't do an engine swap, let alone go turbo..... you definately don't need a more problematic motor

many of those shops don't even have ASE certified mechanics

the reason most places won't touch a lowered car for an alignment is simply because it can't be aligned within the specs that they need to..... camber and toe are greatly affected when you lower a car even one inch.....

Well at least when I worked for Honda we would show the customer the new oil and give them a written document stating that the work was performed.

Alignments as far as I know have nothing to do with a lowered car, I think it just has to do with the size of wheel you have. NTB did my old car.

I think you are very correct about this.

I worked at Jiffy Lube for almost a year and I can honestly say they screw people. But since then I have concluded anyone who takes there car really knows nothing about automobiles and is just lazy. No matter what you bought at jiffy lube, sytentic oil, Fram filter, etc. you got the basic oil change.

it looks to be a 20V turbo in an ae86........

and if you're talking about the company Toyspeed, you're project will take time.... as i recall, they take forever and sometimes don't deliver on the parts you need

that being said, if i were you (since that appears to be your daily driver) i would NOT get a 20V...... if you want a good turbo 4age build..... then screw the 20V.... just get a smallport 4agze.... have the head port and polished a bit... sell the supercharger stuff.... leave the block as it is... forged crank (as all 4ag's have), forged 8.9:1 pistons, and large rings that have been known to hold over 300hp in mr2's....

hmmm.... I was not considering the small port 16 valve one. I was actually looking for the 20v. Now that you said that I might reconsider. Oh and I don't know if we might be talking about the same toyspeed cause I'm talking about the local speed shop that I use to work for. Your probably thinking of Toysport, but the name are similar cause both owners use to work with each other at cali. John the one that owns toyspeed is now here at Oklahoma and that's where I've been getting all the parts. If you recall he did a nice job on his turboed 3tc pumping out close to 400 hp.
and he is also working on a drifter and planning to do a blacktop 4age 20v swap on it also this summer, so both of us are doing our project together and having Dan fly over to Oklahoma to help.

lol, keep telling yourself that...... i keep saying that everyday about my mr2 which would put most corolla's on this site to shame.... when it runs... more power and more modifications you do the more problems you can and probably will run into

also, you say you waited 12 minutes at walmart before they even pulled your car up and claiming that doing it yourself is a waste of time? my oil change might take all of 15 minutes.... and that's because i let it drain extra long.....

Just to keep it short and right to the point... I'm lazy. Don't worry though cause the people that's going to help me with this project know their stuff, so I doubt I'll run in to many problems later on. If you heard of Danstoy, you know how well he works on tuning the engine and stuff. Toyspeed gonna supply me the parts and have him and other guys work on the car. I'll just keep it as that cause I don't want to give away too much detail. Ya I also keep telling my self that I want to do this and that to my car, but by looking at my car now I succeed on what I want on it.

FYI be wary of Walmart and other lube places... Helll I don't even trust dealers anymore... I have read wayyyy too many horror stories of improper oil levels filled and not properly tightened drain plug... The best thing to do is, do it yourself! Or have a mechanic you know and trust do it...

I always do my own oil changes except when I am very busy or cold. So I go to my mechanic who charges me $10, and all I provide is my Mobil M1... So its not too bad...

Speaking of alignments, after running around for 2 hours I finally got a place to do it... And they only charged me $55... Most places wanted me to leave my car for a couple of hours... This guy did it there while I waited so it was good... Every place was arguing I don't need an alignment since I have an 03 and I tried explaining it is lowered... Sooo when I showed my negative camber, they were like oh... haha...

I take my Passat to Eurotech, a locally owned shop that are friends of mine. Works out good..theyve done all the work on my car within the last 6 months. They have a HUNTER rack too, for alignment.
