    Lowering struts?

Is there such thing as lowering struts? I plan on replacing my shot struts, looking for the best ones but not sure were to start.

tokico are generally thought of as the "lowering strut" because they are designed for cars with aftermarket suspension.

They actually do lower the car a little too.

struts are a dampener. dampeners do not determine ride heigh at all, the springs does.

so is there any point in paying extra for tokico or koni over kybs?

Well Tokico were designed in mind that the user will be using a aftermarket lowering spring (valved for higher spring rate and less suspension travel) while KYB GR-2 were designed to be a OE Replacement with OEM springs.

Actually, after a bit of thinking... if the manufacturer welded the spring perch lower, it would effectly lower the ride height as well.. hmmm

I believe the koni are adjustable in their dampener setting, the tokico are not adjustable, and kyb are closest to stock, but better? But since you're not getting your car less than 2 inches, there's really no point in getting the koni's or tokico imo. The koni are easy to use for a set of coil springs like ground control, whereas you may have to customize your tokicos for it to fit.

he wants to know if there are shocks specifically designed to work with a lower spring. If you take a regular shock, and then lower the car with springs, you are always overstressing the shocks, and the shocks will fail faster.

I woulda been asking this question last month, except I searched instead. And my verdict was that I wasted money on my current springs, with my shocks way blown, and I ordered custom coilovers. And they haven't arrived in almost a month!
