    In the papal tradition, "right to the end" meant the pope planned to die not as an ailing old man, but as the pope. Of the 263 men who preceded John Paul II as pope, only one -- Celestine V in 1294 -- left the papacy before his death.

    So I guess the Catholic church has been doing it wrong for the last 2000 years since the position of the pope has been in existance, right?
