I never said it gave me power or anything like that, I just could tell the difference on the car from 87 to 91 octane and it's just much smoother but well yea lol, it's all good man it might be a waste of money but I just don't like how the car rides with 87

well here is a slight update, today we changed spark plugs, well i did at least, and we took my friends out, they were red... they only got about 3-4 thousand on them. They are NGK iridium IX plugs, so we loooked up y his are red and we read online that its from octane booster mostly, but it doesn't have any negative effect towards ur performance supposedly

i put the same NGK iridium IX plugs into my car and car runs nice and smooth, haven't felt that in a while
my plugs were white mostly wit a slight spot of green on the side of the ring that goes on top of the flint (idk the proper names for them)

could that be just a placebo that ur car is running smoother with premium gas? coz i didnt feel any difference...

idk... thats what i've been trying to figure out here on the forums... wen i try and really dont gun it, like almost no gunning at all, i get 220 a tank if im lucky...

i get 220 a tank usually also, and usually i put in 10.5 gallons of 87 gas. Its all about the type of driving, like i do alot of traffic driving so getting 220 is good for me i guess. Highway i get more of course. I get high 30's in pure highway

to "feel" the difference you would have to run the different fuel grades in an engine with a high compression ratio...the V6 in the 06+ avalon and 07 camry for instance...
11:1 I think...you could realistically feel the difference in those...it wouldn't be off the wall to say you could any way...

in a rolla...if you had the 2zz I guess you could...1zz...maybe maybe not...I forget the compression ratios of the two and don't care enough to look.

Of course some people can actually feel the difference in their cars...for some it's in their head...for others they are just more sensative to that.

But oh well...if you have a higher compression engine or are running boost (repetition is fun) then you need higher octane...course to get the best of the best performance you'd want like 100 octane...but that's getting into racing fuel...

hell...also depends on how honest the station is with their grades...;)

WRONG..... man, know your older corolla's..... stock ae92 90-91 gts's require premium as well, with a CR of 10.3:1.... they will detonate with low grade gas... also, modded 2t/3tg's shouldn't be running on low grade gas either

i'm surprised what the purpose of higher octane gas is...

basically, you want to run the lowest octane gas possible without getting detonation.... the higher the octane level is, the harder it is to actually ignite the gasoline..... the best way to think about this is asking why you can't run 87 octane in a boosted car? extra heat and pressure is forced into the combustion chamber, making it easier to pre-ignite the gasoline (which means the flamefront of the burn starts BEFORE the spark plug fires... and doesn't necessarily start in the middle.... this is the basic idea of how a diesel runs). The higher the octane, the less resistant the gasoline is to burn.

if you have a car that runs just fine on 87 octane and you're feeding it 91... then there's a chance you're actually burning less of the fuel in the engine, causing carbon buildup, fouling your plugs, and causing your o2 to misread (which all amounts to lower gas mileage).

And if anyone cares.... the ae92 (smallport motor) gets around 28mpg around town... but on the freeways at 80-90mph (which is the most fuel efficient area in 5th gear my car is) it gets nearly 40mpg

eh screw it, I'm gonna try 87 and see how my car takes it in the long run, plus vpower around this area is getting to 3 bucks the gallon so I'm gonna have to either way hehehe
