I dk I think this thread is completely pointless since everyone has got their own choice wether to go sleeper or just show or maybe even both. Are there any "TRUE" performance chips for the 98-02 rollaz?

I could drop $8k into my car and maybe run mid-13s reliably (pistons/rods/sleeves/turbo)...or I could go buy a 96-ish Mustang Cobra for $8k and be running mid-high 13s stock..or a late 90s Trans Am WS6 6sp for a bit more and be running 12s with slicks.

Corollas aren't 'fast'..sure, there are some fast ones..but c'mon..there's no comparison to a 'fast' car.

Foxbody Mustang + blower = fastness.
Trans Am / Camaro SS + blower = more fastness.

Probably much cheaper, too. There are so many variables to this, it's kinda hard to know where to start..

I think I saw a blown Mustang GT (maybe it was a Cobra..not sure) for sale in Autotrader for about $17,000..listed as a ten second car. That's cheaper than an XRS, no?

Also 8K into a corolla to make it go fast.... A nice home made/custom turbo for 3K will get you 220 whp (about 270 flywheel horsepower on manual assuming about 18 % drivetrain loss) Now 270 Flywheel "paper" horsepower is damn nice...

Now my corolla I paid 12K for plus financing (a 2000 corolla)
Turbo kit I spent 3K (I got nice pieces... ceramic coated etc running 7 psi)
So 15K total!!!

Now a 2005 evo has 276 hp.... flywheel its close to what I have at whp but cost a lot more It can outhandle a stock corolla or course you can work on your suspension

2005 wrx sti 300 hp a little more then mine but costs a ton more


2005 dodge neon srt4 230 hp... already slower.. but its a damn good price

now all these cars are turboed and run high boost usually giving you some room to expand...

The money you save on an sti you can bored your motor to 2 liters get rods pistons sleeves springs retainer valves P&P and turbo the car to 15 psi or higher and run way faster while spending about as much for an sti... (i havent actually calculated it but I wouldnt be surprised) We just dont see many high power corollas..... someday I hope to be boosting around 14psi and making seriosu power but for now im keeping up with all the sports cars at least!

which point... that i don't know of any sub 10 second ae10X corollas off the top of my head? well maybe you should browse some of the new zealand forums.... as i know there are tons of 4agze/4agzte & 4agte 20V guys over there.....

seriously.... looking into some of the older corolla's.... and especially after doing work on my mr2 (and being on mr2 forums) i am finally realizing the potential of these cars... nobody wants to do the work and just complain, but it's all possible....

The 4A series of engines definitely have potential, but they fit most easily in older style Corolla's (97 and older), which turns off alot of people, cause they don't want to mod an older car (I do, but im not normal)...

i have to agree I also like messing with my car a lot because its more unique... not a huge amount of corollas that are done up or that go fast... its nice to have one and to surprise people at what potential exists in the car!

True you spend more money but your car becomes more unique then say a civic.... im not saying civics are bad but they have done everything to them and there are always a ton of them around that are fixed up vs corollas....

I must admit it brings a smile to my face when people are like what kind of car is that or you got a turbo on that honda... and im like its a corolla and they suddenly get a lot more interested in it

i dunno, but if i bought a car for over $30,000 such as an Evo or Sti, i wouldnt spend more money to hook it up because that will just lower the value of the car...but right now all i have is a corolla so i dont mind spending some money on it cuz i know that 20 years from now the money i spent would be like spare change and when i look at my accomplishments on this car, i wont regret it. Sure i will probably be buying another car when im older, but at least right now im doing the things i like and thats the passion of it.

Cause i think someone mentioned this before, but the majority of us that are on this board DONT have a lot of cash to dish out, but we take please in what we DO have. Like our rollas. If i had it my way, I would definitly sport something in the higher price range, but FINANCES do NOT permit! So sometimes, when the one good thing going in my life (my rolla) gets a new set of wheels, or any kind of customization, it brings a smile to my face. And I appreciate what I have. I wish i had a lot of things, but you know what? wish in one hand, shit in the other, see which one fills up faster. Im damn proud of my rolla, because it does everything i want it to do. Sure it has flaws, but working around them is half the fun.

Well factors are MONEY and TIME but well I gotta say I love Rollaz and well someday I'll be fast lol

i probably wont be, because after all it is a rolla, but im planning on a nitrous kit soon, so at least ill keep up with some of the big boys out there. its just not practical for most people to spend 3g's+++ on a rolla.

going super duper fast has become an after thought to me. my car is suprisingly quick and garners way to much attention for being a 20 year old corolla as it is.

No dude. The corolla owner puts in $20K to beat the STi, but the Sti doesn't near a fraction of that to beat the corolla again. Maybe $1000. port/polish, maybe a bigger turbo, etc...

I only made the comparison to the WRX, becasue it was mentioned before me. I stated I want one, but I was making the point that is you are happy with what you got, then BE happy about what you have, is all.

I agree with whoever mentioned about being happy with being in their price range. That is a good place to be, do not get me wrong. But now I want to cross over into tuning, being around it for a while now, I see my friend's modding and tuning their subarus and you know what, they do not spend a ridiclous amount on their cars, but are getting a nice return in power and handling. (I also said they have wrx's(In Birmingham, 05 for 24$ NOT STis which you can get for not much more than a celica gts. MSRP $22,335)


It just would be more cost effective if you are performance minded to not buy a corolla, just because there are not a lot of things out ther for it. The best I've seen yet is monkeywrenchracing.com. A step forward, yes, but not near where we would like to be.

I'm happy wit my 02 prizm, i bought it brand new for 9k. Most likely the quickest new car I could have got for that price. My brother owns a 05 rsx type-s, so i have to hear it all the time how honda is better and my car is crap. Also consently asks me why i bother to modd my car. Him like many other honda fanboys don't understand that their cars are not any better (i know that the rsx can kill my car but to compare them is highly unfair). The civic si is a joke, the Tc and rolla XRS smoke it and the Celica gts is basicly even with the rsx type-s. Today, I looked up the price for a 05 civic ex 5sp and it was a little over 17k! My jaw dropped...overpriced is an understatement. I could get a corolla XRS for that much. What is honda thinking?

if i had the money i would deff get the Evo MR edition, that thing is beautiful..but knowing me, i will be too tempted too spend more money on it. Also im not a big fan of VW's but that R32 is killer..i drove one and its got some crazy pick up, but its too expensive for a hatchback.

Get an R32, send it to HPA Motorsports up in BC.. wait 6 weeks... give them $35 000... get a 550hp, twin turbo, awd, 6 speed golf with porsche brakes... hehe... yeah...

I wish I had a skyline R33 or 34 GT-R! Oh if only the cars I have in GT4 were really mine...
