Do an engine swap or turbo your car. Don't waste your time trying to get a N/A Corolla motor to 200+ hp.

If you're going to turbo, I would do a custom kit. Don't trust those things from www.turbokits.com... I've only heard bad things about them as far as kits for Corollas.

HA HA HA...no replacement for displacement...
It's not about the cubic inches...it's about the cubic feet...HA HA

I can agree with you 9phil9...but if built correctly you can reliably and safely get over 200hp...with boost...on 4cyls. TRUE...it would never equal the power and torque of the same types of mods done to a larger engine.

personally I wouldn't mind getting a fuel eff. matrix, rebuilding to handle 17-20psi safely, enhancing suspension and body, and driving it as a daily driver. Of course I know it would never win against a vett or viper...but it would be fun and enjoyable to drive...it would retain SOME economy while also being much faster than a stock vehicle...along with handling improvements.

Nonetheless...while I feel your pain of watching folks sup up 4cyls blindly believing they will be able to hang with vettes driven by decent drivers...I think the point here is...

Makeing your car you like to drive...as fun for you to drive as possible.

If this means gaining only 75 hp...which isn't really a small amount in terms of street legal rods tuned in house garages...for top fuelers and proffesional garages this is not such a big amount in relation to their 1000's of hp and torque, but even with that said hp gains/losses over 30-40 even for those top guys means win or lose...then so be it...

As long as it's a functional, prosperous, and tasteful...then I don't have a prob. with it...and maybe you don't either...not saying you do.

Also...it's easier to get ahold of these cars...and do little things over time...for these drivers it's more rewarding...they've taken this machine...and enhanced it....given the mods are as mentioned above...functional, prosperous, and tasteful that is...

Not everyone can go buy a vette or mustange GT...but those who can...who have (key point here) NEVER built up their own car...can it be said they REALLY honestly appreciate the time, effort, blood, sweat, and feeling that goes into true tuning? Aside from the designers and engineers of those cars...I say no...so for me...that is why even though it's a 4banger putting out nearly 300hp with only 240torque...whereas stock v8's are putting out those numbers...N/A...these folks have taken something and bled for more.

Now I myself after toying with a few cars would love nothing more than to go out and buy a nice BMW or even a vette...but only after I've sweated it out in my own garage...paying my dues so to speak to the car gods (HA HA)

After all ...knowledge gained working on those smaller engines will only help you make those larger V8's scream all the more :D I mean...I couldn't leave any of my cars unmodified...it's a...distinction thing...not like every civic on the road kind of modding...true modding...enhancing...so to that I say go for it folks...

And as to 200hp outta an 03 corolla...super/turbo charging with fuel system upgrades quickest...rebuild engine also to handle more...once you upgrade ecu and other things you will get even more bang for the same level of boost...I also suggest suspension modding and chassi strengthening...

after all...power without knowledge or control is useless
