These gas prices are really hurting the poor the hardest-- and being a burden on our already burdened public assistance programs.

Congress gets an automatic COLA every year unless they vote to turn it down-- but they're too busy keeping the Federal minimum wage at $5.15/hr (a rate it has been at since 1997.)

In Frederick Maryland, the lowest for 87 is 3.50.
And Frederick is on the low end in Maryland.

Some of the price differences could be attributable to taxes. The Federal tax on gasoline is 18.4c a gallon, then your state adds more.

In Oklahoma, there is an additional 16c a gallon added, and then the county and municipality often add their own tax. Maryland's gasoline tax is 23.5c/gal, Florida's is 14.5c a gallon. It would be interesting for people to post the actual pre-tax price of the gasoline they buy, to see who really is paying too much for gasoline, and who is just paying a lot of gasoline tax.

On September 13, we vote on State Question 723, which will raise the gasoline tax by 5 cents a gallon, and the diesel tax by 8 cents a gallon.

As that increase is so miniscule compared to the price of fuel in the first place (especially since it will be phased in over time), and some of our bridges are in dire need of repair, I'm voting for it.

The Oklahoma Tax Commission estimates that for each cent per gallon tax, $19.2M in tax revenue is raised.

The downside is that it is a regressive tax and will affect the poor the most, and the increase in the diesel tax will affect transportation costs of food and consumer goods-- costs which will be passed on to the consumer.

It's $2.68/gallon here in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Also, SQ 723 (a vote to increase fuel taxes incrementally over the next 3 years another 5c a gallon) was rejected. Penny-wise and pound-foolish-- some of those bridges are in terrible condition, with chunks falling off of them onto the roadway below, and with potholes in the streets causing damage to cars and posing the risk of accidents due to loss of control when hitting them, or swerving/braking to avoid them.

    Stupid Oklahomans...

    In Portugal:

    95 Octanes
    1.29 €

Thought whe use liter as measure unit. 1 gallon is 4,5 liters

    So:

    1------1.29€
    4.5-----x

    4.5*1.29/1= 5.805€

So each gallon is 5.80 €

    Converting Euros to Dollars is:

    6.98 USD per gallon

    Uff....
