That's running 10 lbs, we're using a Walbro 255 fuel pump, 380cc injectors, and Greddy eManage blue, dyno tuned on our Dynojet and using an LM1 wideband. No internal modifications, the complete turbo system including everything ran about $7000 or so (I'll have to double-check), that's a lot of money but it's ALL CUSTOM, and we are using all the best of the best parts, brand new ball-bearing turbo, high-density intercooler, and the list goes on and on, plus that includes all of the dyno tuning time, custom intercooler piping, custom manifold and downpipe, etc.

Properly built and tuned, 10psi is no problem at all.

a friend of mine did a 1zz-fe @ 15psi, but the owners started changing parts and fecking around with it and they blew the engine

so yea, properly tuned and detonation free is the way to go

1 question what kind of turbo do you use? reason I am asking is because i run at 7PSI and with no intercooler with the current T-28 BB it had a T-25 Twin Scroll but it siezed due to poor lubircation, and it took forever to spool for its size. both turbos ran at the same PSI. the only difference is the T-25 TS boosted form high-mid to top end. the T-28 BB spools at just over 2000 RPM.

You got gun cage duty? LOL My friend would love to trade places with you. He's a weapons freak.:p

I've heard good things about the potato turbo. Anyone care to explain the extra benefits?

rollatuner110, the benefits of a "disco potato" are the rev range. It hits peak boost by about 4000 RPM, if I'm not mistaken. Good turbo for low range.

yeah i he should but then that may require to build the engine more stronger internally, right now i know I can handle 14 psi safely but since my car is currently being used for a daily driver with two very paranoid parents about power i have it set at 7 psi. i was told that since it was modified to handle more power i could have up to 18 PSI but i don't want to push it.

    ;)

This is the GT28RS compressor map:

In addition to having an unusually wide mid-section so it's very efficient, this particular turbo is well-sized to this engine and for this power level. As you can see in the dyno chart, the turbo begins to spool at 2750 RPM (indicated by the steep "bank" at that point) which is quite low, so the low-end response is great, then reaching full boost by 3250 rpm (where the steep bank suddenly levels off). Looking at the other side of the chart, we see that beyond 6000 rpm where we hit the speed limiter, horsepower was still rising rapidly and torque still looks very good... indicating that the turbo is large enough, if it was too small then power and torque would be dropping off quickly.

Oh yes, quite easily, the only concern at this point is the engine itself. Next year we are doing a full forged rebuild, at which point will bring it up to 15 to 18 psi.

Yes, actually we could install a digital speed calibration unit to set it higher if you like.

You're currently limited to a top speed of around 120. If you want to go faster than 120, you will need it.

I just need to get my emanage wiring straightened out and my car will be back on the road running 8 psi, I blew my engine running 12psi but that was with a bad tune and potential wiring problems hehe :) 8 psi should be pretty safe. Corolla's with boost feel like little super cars.

I've got some pics on the way :)

There's no way to say for sure how one dyno reads to another since so many factors are involved. What we do know for sure is that it made x amount of power before, and now it's making x amount of power after, on the SAME dyno. That's really the only accurate way to compare numbers.

    Very good question.

If you look in the 3rd-to-last pic, you can see a small diameter aluminum pipe... that routes the air from the bypass valve back into the intake stream after the MAF... no problems :)
