    98 corolla engine swap

hey so my 98 corolla engine just failed on me a few days ago, i have been knowing that this would come for a few months. long story short i have two options, one is to rebuild the engine and two is to buy a new engine. Now i was looking into putting in the 3S-GTE because it would offer alot of power gain.

with that being said i need to know a few things about what im doing. first will this engine fit into the engine mounts like the old one?

Has any one done this to their 98 or 99 corolla?

what would i need to do if i werer to put a vvti engine in it.

does any one think i should put a different kind of engine in it?

thanks for your help and also sorry if there has already been a post similar to this.

ok after doing some research i have found that putting in a 3sgte would be a little too much money for me. but i still want to get an engine that is at least a little better, what would it require for me to put in a 1zzfe w/vvti? a new ecu maybe? and would a 2azfe physically fit into my rolla?

you could always go with the 1ZZ from the 9th gen corolla, just make sure you get a different tach as the redline is a little higher.

I asked Dr. Tweak at Phoenix Tuning before about the 2az-fe he said should fit fine just motor mounts will most likely be re-located.

plus 3sgte swap would be expensive it would be great hp gain but if your looking for a quick fix that's not the way to go. like i said 2az-fe cheaper find and a good hp and torque gain. cheapest way same motor or vvti it!!!

It depends how you are doing it. If you are just swapping 1zzfe blocks, then you will reuse your manifolds and ECU so you will NOT get a higher redline.

If you are going from a non vvti 1zzfe to a vvti 1zzfe aka whole engine swap, then you will need the complete 1zzfe VVTi engine with manifolds, sensors, ECU, and wire harness. Then redo the wiring on your car's engine harness to join.

I got about 4 pratt and whitney jt9d's for about 500,000 dollars since they scraped the 747 and replaced it with the 777. Gas mileage sucks, but this with will make .8 past light speed. (someone guess the movie you win brownie points)
