    eeeww. . . . .got an engine bay pick so i can see the motor mounts? i dont really know the difference between the 1zz and 4a mounts. im a 7th gen specialist , but wouldnt mind moving to the 8th gen too.

    i apologize for not reading the entire thread... but is there a diverter installed between where the blower feeds the turbo, and the air filter?

    also, do you have that center section clocked enough for sufficient oil drainback?

    the info is in the thread , but yes , we have a oneway flow valve between the turbo filter and the s/c boost piping feeding into the turbo. the valve only opens when the turbo "sucks" more air than the s/c is feeding it. by the way its hidden within the 2.5" piping , to keep things clean , and people scrachin' their heads. right between filter , and the BOV flange itself.

    as for the oil drain , its on a 25 degree slope , with the feed line coming strait in from 90 degrees vertical. the motor bears a high volume oil pump. the drain is a mere 4-5"inches from the oil pan , and only about 1 1/2" higher than the flange for the drain in the side of the pan.

    there was really no other way for this to be done.

    i know oil drainage is a gravity thing , but considering this car will spend most of its time thrusting forward and not idling for long periods of time , it seems as if enertia alone will aid in draining , wouldnt you think so? if the housing itself was at a 90 degee strait up angle , then the drain side on the turbo would be lower than the flange on the oil pan , and we all know gravity isnt gonna make oil flow up hill .

    so thats pretty much the story behind that.

    thought so on the intake pipe... nice setup you have.

    i use the higher mounted t3 manifold for my 4age and ended up having to use a -10 drain with a -4 feed and an oil restrictor on the inlet after i wrecked the bearings on my first turbo. i wish you luck with your setup, it just looks kinda scary to me.

    what looks scary? or is it a lack of understanding the complexities? volkswagon has had mad success with this twincharge setup , a 1.4 liter producing 170 whp , and 200 wtq , all while getting 39 miles per gallon.

    the oil return.


    im well versed in the complexity of twincharged setups, as well as compound forced induction. i only asked about the valve because i didnt read the entire thread and it isnt exactly visible in the pictures. i mocked my first one up in shop class almost a decade ago and have since been privy to several aw11s running custom setups.

    well any suggestions about the oil return , and whats your honest opinion on it? our inlet is -4 an or less as well , and the outlet is
    -8 or -10 an too. are you saying its gonna allow the oil to drain away too fast?

    the pictures may be misleading, but it looks like the oil feed and drain is clocked almost horizontal to the vehicle. is it even possible for the oil to drain back too fast? ive never heard that one before...

    im suggesting that you relying on acceleration to somehow drain the oil from the turbo that it is going to pool and eventually cause bearing damage. have you built and driven a turbo car, with a similar oil return to the one you have pictured, before?

    for reference here is one of my first turbo 4ages i built that shows my oil drain clocked basically completely vertical.

    the drain is a slight concern. there is a slight angle and since the oil feed is so small and the drain is so big, im thinking it will be okay

    update:

    radiator mounted , everything buttoned up , starting it up soon.

    well ,

    we exploded a fuel filter while the fuel pup was building prssure.. . . . . . . but everything comes on , all relays function , no popped fuses. these are the pics i said id get last week. finally got a chance to get them today.

    usually for the clamps on my short ram I tighten them up and I bend the excess metal over the screw... my intake haven't fallen off since I did this almost a year ago (since the last accident I had with an Cherokee running on my lane)
