2009 Corolla S Cold Air Intake

So I found a place locally, and talked with the guy that owns the shop. And he is going to fabricate a cold air intake for me. He is going to powder coat all the parts black, and make it look Stock(Well as stock as a CAI is). The company has gotten excellent feedback and is one of the best around my area(Boise, ID) I will be dropping my car off next Tuesday and have it back by friday. Its going to cost between 350-450. Depending on the parts that will be ordered. He said the Powder coat will be a good touch and make everything look nice. I can't wait!!!

Dropped off the car today, found out that they don't have a mandrel bender, but I am sure it will turn out awesome. It should be done by the end of next friday.

If they're not going to use mandrel bent piping, wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to just get the modular system from Spectre.

It might be, can you link that to me? I mean I already dropped it off, and this place is very reputable. And I just want something that will look super clean, and they are going to do some nice powder coating with it. And then I might get my rims powder coated the same color as the car(Metallic Gray)

Meh, its to late, he has already started making it, I'm sure it will be fine. I just miss my car thats all :(

Just spoke with the guy building the Intake, he said he should have the intake done by tomorrow before he sends it off for powder coating. He said he would take a picture for me so I can post some pictures up.

    Stay tuned... :)

The price was about 500 with labor and powder coating. Its kinda pricey but I think its nice. One small problem I am having now. The CEL is coming on, and I think it has something to do with the MAF Sensor. Its was acting weird when I was driving, like when I was revving it up, It was shifting in the middle of the rev, and it would Jerk really hard when it shifted like that. So I will have to take it in on monday. Any Suggestions??

my 1zz 08 corolla HATED every single c.a.i. i tried except the Injen. (I tried the trd, cosmo, aem, and fujita(sp?) Those m.a.f. sensors are REAL sensitive. Mine threw a check engine light everytime i started my car. The only difference is the Injen has a little drop where the m.a.f. sensor sat.

Im just speaking from my personal exp., yours might be different.

Looks nice. Is there any air flow toward the filter? Would be nice if you put a tube to direct air towards it.

Personally I don't want to keep the CAI if its going to be throwing CEL's at me, Especially the way it is shifting. Acting all funny. I might just have to go with a Short Ram intake like the Weapon R.

Does anyone else think that the MAF Sensor is to close to the Throttle body?? Could that be causing the CEL's to be coming on?

the MAF should be at the same distance from the throttle body as stock for it to function properly. Do you have any pictures of the stock airbox setup?

Personally I would never use crush bent pipes for intakes because the changes in cross sectional area creates turbulence and affects fluid dynamics

Well, I don't think he crushed anything, Its all welded and cut, really clean. I have pictures of where it was welded and cut. But I will post pictures of the Stock MAF when I get home

And its all good, because it has a warranty, so if he messed up, then he gets to make another one :D :p

Here is a picture of where the intake meets the throttle body.

Is the Piping that he used, to big?

Well I have been reading around, and it appears I might have to get the ECU Tuned for the bigger Diameter tubing. Anyone agree/disagree

I am going try adjusting the position of the MAF when I get home as well, and see if that helps or not. Dunno if it will :-/

I don't think a CAI would require a retuning. Only if you were doing a turbo. Its probably just the MAF being sensitive

Ya I got an Update, I took it to the guy today, and he said that the CAI was pulling in 2.5x more air then the stock box was. He said that the Fuel Injectors are not keeping up with all the air that is coming in. He says he doesn't know what he can do other then trying to add a restrictor on it. He is going to add the restrictor and call me tomorrow. Hopefully it will work

^... because you paid for something that works, not something that works halfway.

If the injectors are not keeping up with the air, im no expert but a tune should work. 2.5x more air sounds impressive, with headers, no cat, full exhaust and a tune you should notice some hp gains.
