    ok, good information, thanks guys.

I am definately looking into doing a custom turbo setup, however as I don't have much experience in the mechanical aspects of turbo setups (mostly NA engine work previously) I would definately look into having a reputable shop assist in the project. I'm in New Mexico (hate it!) and all the shops here suck or just sell crap you don't need. Since I need this car for advertising for my graphics shop, I want to boost the performance somewhat for now. Now, for a completely NOOB question (no flaming please :D ), what engine might be a good canidate to swap out my 1ZZ? I'll be converting from Auto to Manual also. Since the graphics shop belongs to me, I'll be using the shop to pick up all the bills, so money's really not an issue right now.

    Thanks

Note: any references for excellent shops would be great... preferably reputable shops who have done similar swaps before... any area ranging from So. Cal to Texas is fine...

Mkay smarty the person who started this thread and asked the questions is in the US so non North American Corollas have nothing to do with this thread. My bad I guess for not specifying that any posts I make about the Corolla refer to the North American Corolla unless otherwise noted :p

    oh my fucking lord....

first of all, i have had my scion since mid may. i have only 7500 miles on the odo. i refuse to touch the engine. the measly HP gains from things like intake and exhaust aren't worth the $700 required to do it, and frankly, i will not turbo this engine. now, there IS a very good chance that a turbo engine will end up IN my car, but that's way out in the future.

suspension? Tanabe Sustec PRO S-OC Type II full coilovers, APR strut bar, Hotchkis Swaybars, and up next a new lighter lower frame brace by JIC magic.

    now, to your next "comment"

i have no fucking idea what you're talking about. i didn't take any of those pictures you linked to. yes, i was there at the show for 2-3 hours, but i didn't take those pictures.

    Eric, you're slipping..

    "Im" slipping....yeah, ok....

again, a case of you not reading my post.

i have had the car for 7500 miles.. why would i turbo this engine ? why would i SC it? wouldn't it be smart to give it a chance to settle in before doing this to the car? the engine is weak.

i never said that i wasn't going all bling bling did i?

at this point, the xA outhandles the corolla, and many other cars i've driven, and it will only get better from here. the Momo's go in next week, dropping almost 80 pounds from the interior, (which will all come back on when the harness bar for the seatbelts is in lol).. and i'm pretty sure a stiffer lower tie bar in the front will give me some more steering feel..

i guess we'll have to wait and see. i didn't buy the xA for performance. i bought it because it was shit cheap, and a far better tuning platform than the corolla.

I'm gonna bump this thread cause i am interested in knowing if anyone knows about swapping an engine like he said. I've pretty much given up on a turbo or supercharger since the gains-money ratio isn't very good. For instance what about the Celica GTS engine maybe?

I am a bit confused by this post. I have been quoted at $6-7K to have a Celica GTS engine put in my car, and much less to have a turbo put on my stock motor. If I do the GTS engine swap, at best I am looking at 180 bhp and some weak ass torque. There are kids on this board pulling 225+ whp and similar torque figures from 6-7 lbs of boost on their custom turbo. Plus, if you got a turbo, you would always have the option of building the block to handle more boost for even more hp (there is a 1ZZ-FE out there pullin 359 whp at 20 psi). So my question is, where are you getting that the cost vs. gains ratio for installing a turbo isn't very good. From what I can tell, putting a turbo on a 1ZZ-FE is currently the cheapest and the best way to go. If I am wrong on this please let me know. Maybe shyguy can tell us how much he spent on his engine swap and if the cost/gain ratio for his car is better that that of the people sporting turbos?

Damn, there goes the topic again...
Anyway, like I asked before, what engine might be a good canidate to swap
into my car? I realize there's tons of posts regarding swaps, but I haven't
seen much regarding my car's gen... 2000-2001.

Thanks in advance for any PERTINANT information...

ROKnight, are you missing posts like the one above? THERE ARE NO GOOD ENGINE SWAPS FOR OUR CARS!!!! None of them really make any sense and only the Celica GT-S, JSpec Celica, and XRS motors have been done before. If you do want to do a swap, do a 2JZ V6 from the IS300. It is the same block that was used in the Supra and should fit in the engine bay. The main problems you will have is that no one to my knowledge has done this before so you would really be on your own as far as wiring and stuff would be concerned, and the engine is made for rear wheel drive cars. It will also probably cost you about $15K to make it work, but, no joke, it would be sweet. There is a lot of talks about the V6's from the Avalon or the Camry being able to be used in an MRS which starts off with the same engine as your car, but no one has done one for the Corolla. If I were you I would stop asking about this and just talk to Supershyguy or some shops around you for some info.

Just to clarify the 2JZ is an i-6 and I doubt it would fit in a Corolla engine bay without cutting into the firewall because it is fairly long. There are swaps that make more sense than this. Fensport put a 3S-GTE into an AE102: http://www.fensport.co.uk/fensportcars.htm
