i dropped an 03 engine in no problems, hooked up to my 00 ECU and worked perfectly fine. On a side note i have some bad pictures to upload that there...
go with an 03 plus block, and a 00-02 ECU if you dont want to change out your gauges... thats what im running and the 03 hardly have the oil...

03-08 izzfes should mount up just fine as long as they have a tranny from an 8th gen i believe?
i believe mounts are the same, exhaust manifold would need an 8th gen or aftermarket, and the ecu needs to be changed if you want the higher redline.

you could always go with the 1ZZ from the 9th gen corolla, just make sure you get a different tach as the redline is a little higher.
