DIY: How To Change Your Window's Belt Molding

So your window's belt molding is looking worn out like mine here, eh?

Well, here is what you need to replace them:

    Part Number:
    75740-02040 Rear Left Door
    75730-02040 Rear Right Door
    75720-02050 Front Left Door
    75710-02050 Front Right Door
    67869-02020 Plastic Door Weatherstrip Fastener

    Tools:
    (2) Flat Head Screwdriver
    (1) 10 MM Socket Wrench

    Front doors:

    1) The front doors are the hardest. You have to take out your side mirrors. So use your 10MM socket to loosen the 3 bolts and take off mirror.

    2) Roll down your window so you don't scratch the glass and give yourself more room to work. Use your screwdriver to pry up the old belt molding.

    3) The front of the belt molding is held in place by a plastic fastener pictured here.

    4) You want to pull back the door's weatherstripping to expose the plastic fastener. Use a screwdriver on either side of the fastener's head to pull it out. I think it is a one time use fastener as I could not reuse either one of mine.

    5) Take off old belt molding. Align the new belt molding by carefully placing the edges to the slots on the door. Secure them in place by just pressing down on the molding. Don't forget to replace the fastener and put back your side mirror. That's it!

    Rear Doors:

    1) The rear doors are real easy. Roll down your window. Pry up the old belt molding with screwdriver.

    2) You should see these blue tabs remaining from your old belt molding. Just slide them down towards the end of the door and they will come off.

    3) Align your new belt molding on the door and press down. The molding should click in place. That's it!

I wish moldings & weather stripping didn't cost so much, I wanted to change the top weather stripping for the longest time.

Those are 16" Enkei DM5 with +42 offet. Good luck finding a set as they are been discontinued. They might still have some in +38 offset but they will rub a dub.

They cost $30 - $40 a piece from an online Toyota discount parts store, but MSRP is $50ish. :nutkick:

Do a Google search on Toyota Discount Parts and you will get a bunch of sites. Type in the part numbers to compare each site. Whomever has the best price varies week to week. Don't forget about the shipping cost.

My situation is even stranger. I park it outside a lot and only the driver's side front is flaking. The other three are still rubbery thick and supple. :superconf Maybe I'm just too hot when I sit there. LOL :D

The rubber peeling off the molding isn't just a cosmetic issue, it grips your windows snug so debric or water doesn't fall inside the door.
