Gen 7th and 8th Rolla front caliper upgraded with 93-97 2.2L Camry front caliper

Once again, I got this information from a Taiwanese Corolla site (http://www.llaclub.info), I'll try my best to translate it.

The story is about a guy called "hothbl" (he's just like Vamp in Taiwan), he wanted to upgrade his corolla front caliper but couldn't find any. He kept thinking and thinking then he came across with Camry's.

    Translation started :)
    =========================================
The oem corolla caliper piston is around 54-55mm, and Camry is around 57-58mm. It's just a little bit bigger, but the effect is lots lots bigger. You can use Camry's caliper directly bolt on to the Gen 7th rolla, it's 100% fit. But Camry's brake disc is 6mm thicker than the rolla, so you have to replace your brake pads when they have only 3mm left. Make sure you got 93-97 2.2L Camry's caliper, coz no one never tried the 3.0L yet, not sure if it will work or not.

Above it for Gen 7th rolla only, for Gen 8th, you have to buy the front caplier from Gen 7th! Because Camry's caplier can only directly bolt on to Gen 7th's "座" (can someone help me translate this?), and Gen 7th's and Gen 8th's "羊腳固定孔" (anyone help?) are the same. So Gen 8th need to buy a set of Gen 7th's caplier in order to upgrade to camry's.

If you didn't change anything at all but the caplier only, you will get at least 15% more braking power (dunno how they measure it).

NEW CAMRY
NEW COROLLA 的卡鉗!

    FAQ:

I HIGHLY doubt you get 15% more stopping power... because the car's ultimate braking is limited by the tires, not the brakes, but you might get better pedal feels and possible better fade resistance because of the thicker calipers and slightly more surface area for the pads...

Well better fade resistance would be good, because I can brake hard 3 or 4 times before I can feel them fading and stopping distances increase.

    say huh?

I'd rather go for dual piston GT-Apex brakes.. calipers are same for MR2's, but discs needs to be imported.

..piston size dont help brake fade, brake fade is prevented by using components that help the brake cool down quicker and/or handle higher braking temperature. It does help braking torque tho.. might bring down the distance a lil.

But one of the changes in components is a thicker disc, like it says up top, the thicker disc will help dissipate heat better than the regular disc, which should help brake fade, and, unless I understood it wrong because its a little hard to read, doesn't the new caliper accept a larger brake pad, which would also allow the pad to dissipate heat better also... unless I read that wrong (which is very possible), heh...

no you use OEM corolla discs, since the corolla discs are smaller you need to change the pads when there is still 3mm of braking material left on the pads. Camry are 5lugs, cant use camry discs unless you have them made in four or have them redrilled.

I was referring to the fact that the camry discs are thicker apparently, which would help (if only slightly) prevent fade.

If the calipers are the same for the GT-Apex brakes, does that mean the pads are the same too? Cause if so, you could just buy two extra sets of discs and just throw them in the garage until you need them. Pads are what you need to worry about more.

    Back from the dead..

I'm having a tuff time understanding this conversion...
So if you have an 8th gen corolla... You have to buy 7th gen Corolla calipers
so that you can put Camry calipers on?

But why would you need to buy the 7th gen corolla calipers? I thought both 7th and 8th gen corolla have the same suspension and brakes? whats the point?
