well i guess that is good. my parents brought me up to only buy things when i could afford them. good job though.

just think in 2 years you would have spent even more money and your car would be worth even less.

i.e. at my old dealership people that took 5 year loans on, say a civic dx. its about a 15k dollar car. well financing it for 5 years bring the price to about 20. well in 5 years the blue book on the car is going to be about 6. damn.....

yeah well i didnt have 8-10K to just pull out of pocket and my other car had blown up - i didnt want to walk for 2 years while i saved up money... don't assume everyone goes out and just buys because they can finance... also, how do you expect to buy a house if you avoid financing something? *ponders* just a thought - sorry if i come off sharp but I kinda feel like you judged me with your statement ...

I had completely planned on paying it off well ahead of schedule with that exact thought in mind so I wouldnt have paid well up into the 15K range for it... Hell I only bought the car back at the tail end of 2001 .... I've been making mad double payments and stuff... (except the three months i paid minimum because i was clammering cash at the last minute for the turbo - but i totally caught that up to stay on track)

Total price with finance charges I paid for the car was about 11K - which in 2001 the car was worth damn near that. It was way low miles when I bought it (like 10K) and was fully loaded. Hell the original retail on the thing was 15k, so I didn't pay through the nose for it. I shopped around quite a bit before I bought it and found the best deal I could.

Yea dude, just because you finance something doesn't mean that you can't afford it, affording something and paying on something are totally different. Like if you work for a temp agency, and you buy a 350z, then you can't afford it, but if you work for a lawyers office, and you make $150k a year, but you want to finance your car, then you can afford it. I do understand what you are talking about when you are talking about all that finance and paying more than what it is worth, but, ah. money is money, you make it it spend it, why hoard it, keep the economy healthy

Very nice man! There is no better feeling! Today I was looking over my title to get everything ready to sell my 98! It has been a long road, but It is time for her to go to other hands!

And to Mike4831 I think you should wait until you have actually "grown" up to really state that. Once you have a mortgage, kid(s), wife, and still think that the only way of buying something is to have the money upfront, then you can talk. Plus in the US you are not worth a damn unless you have a good credit rating and history.

I agree with Laz. I am a Pro Software Engineer and make salary upwards of 57K per anum. At the age of 27 and still being single, with all the payments I have to make and pay my student loans ( now sitting at 16K. I paid 5 K off in the last one year), helping my parents and brother, and then think of some other wise investments, the only way I can afford a car, let alone an 05 Corolla XRS is through paying a down payment and finance the rest. I probably would never be willing to dedicate all the money I have sitting in the bank for a car.
