WOOHOO!!! I just got my folding 60/40 REAR SEAT Swap!!!

    Yo,

Most people on these forums want to make their car look good or go fast. As some of you guys already know, I on the other hand just want to make my bare entry model VE into a LE. So here is my latest project. The 60/40 Folding rear seat swap!!!!

Pulled all the parts myself off a 99 Corolla CE in 100 degrees climate in 30 minutes with hand tools. Total cost = $29.96

Is there only one way to unlatch the folding seats and that is from the cable release in the trunk? In other words, if I was inside the car and wanted to unlatch the folding seats I will have to get out and open the trunk to unlatch or is there another way?

Yes, the only way to unlatch it is from the cable release inside the trunk. There's two releases. One for the 60 and one the 40.

Man that blows. I should of gotten the 93-97 folding seats, those I think have a button in the seat backcushion where it would unlatch from the inside. Not positive.

Ok. Big problem. It seems that none of the holes for the brackets are predrilled yet in my 1998 Corolla VE. So I will have to drill holes for the 3 brackets. Does anyone know how to figure out which thread size it is that I need to tap? I got a die and tap set, I just never used it. If the holes were already there, I could had installed everything less than an hour.

This is where I have to drill:

you actually need a thread setter kit... I think you can get them at napa.. but don't quote me on that... :) take in your bolts and they should be able to figure out what you need...

yeah, they are in the shower as we speak taking a bubble bath. Man all this rust looking stuff keeps going out of the seats....ewwwwwww.
Since these seat fabric won't match my VE fabric anyways I didn't care about the condition as I am going to get seat covers for all my seats.

    LOOK!

Hey guys, what am I missing here? I think the center rear seatbelt is different on my car then the cars with folding rear seat. Like everything I lower the rear seat, the center belt still pokes out. I can't tell as the donor car had all it's seatbelts cut.

hmmm...that may explain why there was a bra stuffed down under the fold down seats in the donor car. No, I'm serious it was just too f-ing hot for me to remember to snap a photo. And there was a teddy bear in the trunk also.....

UPDATE: Everything has been fitted. Took 15 min to fit everything. The center belt is in the way of the 60 fold down seat but no biggie.

The hard part is going to be bolting these seats to the car. Got my drill bits and tap seat ready. I'm just nervous about messing up because I've never tapped threads before.

please don't tap them.. go to checker and pick up a thread setting kit.. you drill the hole insert threads and use a tool (that comes with the kit) to squish it down... if you tap the sheet medal it will just make a bigger hole. tap kits are for solid pieces of medal

You can always use self tapping screws too.
