    Windows XP issue...

I read up on this just to make sure I wasn't going to do anything stupid.

I just want to run it by the techs here to see what you guys think.

A friend of mine has a home built pc with Windows XP. One day after surfing MySpace, the computer would not load all the way. It would load up to the Welcome screen and it wouldn't go passed that. I tried to get her to go into safe mode but it wouldn't load up in safe mode either. It would show the screen that says safe mode in all four corners, but thats it, no icons no nothing.

After much reading, it was suggested to run Scan Disk from the command prompt to see how things go. If all is fine and it still will not load, then to go back and restore to an earlier version.

This is what I have for the restore:

It was also mentioned to use the Win XP cd to repair whatever is messed up.

Do you guys think this is the way to go? or would you suggest another alternative? let me know ur thoughts.

ahh..forgot to mention. if I reinstall XP. I would need the Serial Number for that version of windows. she THINKS she lost it. If she has, is there an easy way to find it off the cd? or is she pretty much SOL?

everyone seems to hate IE..lol. I'm assuming FireFox is the best one to use?

use another computer to download http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

then boot in safe mode by pressing F8 whent he computer starts if you can and run it.

if it wont boot to windows download this and burn to a CD http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
has a few antivirus programs that should help ya out.

if all else fails reinstall windows as mentioned

I use IE 7 every day.. and for browsing myspace and have never had any problems with it, other than myspace being slow like it is for everybody... but I would say reinstall windows and if she has lost the codes than uhhh go buy a new copy... thats about all I have to say... or call up microsoft, I'm sure that if you have a legit copy they would be happy *snicker* to give you another one...

Ehh. I dunno. It gets old fast. A lot of it seems useless, although I do like the new alt+tab option better. I don't like the folders and the menus are all over the place now. :(

The wallpapers are nice though, and I'm sort of getting used to the glass/gadgets.

We're testing it for the AF right now. Talking about rolling it out soon. Its alright. I guess I'm just not used to it yet.

Oh yeah the taskbar is a little nice than the ugly green/blue XP was. Although, I still prefer the classic theme. :)

Ok ,Barney, its not bad. :)
(Oh yeah sorry bout that little edit of your post. I keep doing that instead of hitting quote. LOL)
