With the windows closed you're probably getting destructive interference between the sound reflected off the windows and the direct sound from the sub. Try moving the sub - you should find a spot where it sounds better, and it's usually not right behind the rear seats.

    I'd say something completely different

oxymoron could be right, but it could also be like the difference between a ported and a non-ported sub enclosure. With your windows open the air is free to move back and forth and to vibrate with your music, whereas the air is pressurized and has nowhere to really move when the windows are down, thus making it harder for the sub to make as much of a 'punch'.

It allows the air to move freely in your car instead of building pressure inside of it. It's not louder (SPL wise), it just sounds that way cause the waves move in a different patttern.

RAAMmat is better and a lot cheaper. Just did my whole car and it's so quiet I can't hear my exhaust any more and it's freakin loud. I know someone who distributes Dynamat and as soon as his contract is up, he's switching over to RAAMmat cause it's better (cheaper doesn't hurt either).

I personally know the owner of RAAMmat though, great guy. Taught me a lot about sound while I was at his house swapping tranny's and more.

O i kinda liked my explaination, lol. But ya i guess the free air movement makes more sense anyway.

some kinda dynamat would be a good idea since im getting 2 more subs soon. How much do places charge to raamat or dynamt the entire car? im sure i could do it but looks like a pain to do

inorder to hear any kind of sound in this case, bass, u need oxygen. Oxygen is moved by the sound waves and hits ur ear drums. Opening the windows lets in more oxygen. I had a custom rear deck with a hole cut through the metal and the top deck. It lets in more oxygen into the trunk thus it hits harder. Dynamat give u more bass cuz evey time u bass hits ur trunk and the trunk rattles, it takes away the energy that can be used to push the oxygen even harder.

Does anyone here just have the trunk kit in their car? and if so, is that all i need if i just have 250 x 2 in my trunk?

I think the most amusing point was your usage of oxygen...
