why bus companies should be fully checked out before using for a trip...

or, how my mom got hurt yesterday.

so my mom took a bus trip to some Easter play yesterday with a few of the women from her work(as well as a few other company groups). everything's going alright until the driver guns it while going through a light. my mom happened to be walking in the aisle - mind you, this is a tour bus with a bathroom and she was on her way back to her seat FROM said bathroom...

anywhat...she slipped(she WAS holding on to a seat back, but the driver literally lurched the full bus forward), and landed. hard. she hit her face on an armrest, and landed on her wrist. the aftermath? she sprained said wrist, bloodied her nose, bruised her lip badly, bruised her hip badly...and the bus didn't have a first aid kit. she's fairly certain she didn't break her nose(no horrible bruising on her face), but we're still unsure about the condition of her wrist. she can move her hand up and down(sortof...) but the bruising has gotten worse.

so...i'm sending her to a doctor's tomorrow, and she's making a complaint. my question is...does anyone think we could get her medical costs(at least the doctor's visit) covered by the bus company? she never signed a waiver or anything...and the drivers should know better than to gun it through a light.

hopefully you'll be able to get the fees paid for but I could see the bus company saying " She shouldn't of been up out of her seat." and they'll probably have the rationale of "if the driver didn't gun it, he'd have to slam on the brakes which would be worse".

I hope you can geyt everything worked out alright! Good luck.

well how are you supposed to go to the bathroom if you can't get out of your seat...and im sure if u weren't allowed to get out there would be signs all over the bus...and if he woulda had to have slammed on the brakes then he was gone to fast...he didn't have to gun it to go through a yellow light...just crusie through

exactly my point...there were NO signs saying that passengers may not leave their seats...and the bathroom was provided.

There should be a firstaid kit abord the buss. hell RTD (public transportation) here in denver has first aid kits abord. most of those trips only last like 10-30 minutes and there is no bathroom provided.

Hmm....I think she may have a right to complain, but not too sure if the bus company has to do anything about it. Some companies practice the customer is always right, some practice "its the customers fault".....just depends on the business practices of the bus company.

And when you are walking around the bus when its moving, you take that risk with a bus moving in traffic.

Definately complain, and she should go to the ER as soon as possible. Waiting any longer may void any chance she has for a case.

she's going to the doc's first thing this morning...and she's filing a complaint, so hopefully that plus the record of the appointment might help us. we DON'T want to take this to a lawyer...so we're hoping they might take the fall for this one, especially since the first aid kit was nearly nonexistant.

here's the update...after spending the day at various doctors(and her doc visits aren't quite over), it's been verified her wrist is broken...we still don't know the true condition of her teeth, as the dentist couldn't see her today...and i'm not letting her drive tomorrow until after she's got a cast on her wrist.

i'm so stressed out right now i could pop...i hate this. i honestly hope the bus company takes some responsibility, at least for the fact that they didn't have a first aid kit on the bus(which IS against the law, i checked that out today).

But what could the first aid kit do? NOT having it on the bus didnt make her injuries worse.

well it might've not made the injuries better but dood it's a safety measure and like Fal said it's the law.... I don't even work for a big company and I carry one in every single one of my cars, u never know man it might come in handy for some cases of injury and might even save ur life bro...

True, but if shes thinkin lawsuit, whats the argument?

If anything, the bus company can get fined. But not having a first aid kit wont give any monetary damages to someone injured.

well...mom was smart and used the lack of first aid kit as her bargaining chip. the bus company's insurance company is paying for all her med bills as well as her taxi fare tomorrow, since i can't pick her up from the hospital where the orthopedic specialist is.
