whining noise with ipod thru aux input

hey, ive had this problem with two different pioneer stereos. its probably basic or expected but im not that knowledgable with stereos. with both the deh-p4600mp and the deh-p7600mp<which i have now>, i have hooked my ipod up to them through the ip-bus connection used for the cd changer in the back using the cd-rb10 to rca adapter for the headphone jack on the ipod. problem is i get this hissing or whining sound on top of a little extra static that i dont get with a cd or using the radio. the whining gets louder when you rev the engine. overall its not that bad and worth having the 20 gigs of music, but anyone who is particular about noises will probably eventually go insane from the whining..

anyone have any idea on how to fix or atleast whats causing it?

    thanks

Did you hook it up yourself? Aftermarket stereo?

Sounds like your speaker wires are too close to your power wires, what your getting is engine noise.

If it gets louder or higher pitched as the RPMs increase then it's a grounding issue. I'm not sure where that would be coming from, but check the other connections to your stereo to make sure they're secure.

If it were power to speaker problems it would be there when listening to a CD as well...

I have a similar setup; with my Rio Karma going directly into the stereo; and I experienced a similar problem but only when I had it plugged in. When the Karma was plugged in there was an almost overpowering engine whine coming through the input that was not at all apparant without being plugged into the charger. If your iPod is plugged into a charger, try unplugging it.

If you just can't live without having it plugged in, I don't really know how I'd be able to help you. Throwing a nicely sized capacitor somewhere between the adaptor and the iPod would help a load, as would one of those whatchemacallit rings (I forget what they're called, but they're what the large cylinder near the end of many cables are) to protect against any sort of interference travelling outside the line.

It could also be that the RCA wires and/or that connector of yours is too close to the power - rather than the speaker wires - but somehow I doubt that, just because I haven't experienced anything remotely similar

actually, now that you mention it, maybe it is the charger. it has a headphone jack on the side of the charger which allows you to plug it into that rather than the ipod itself.. im going to try plugging it directly into the ipod and if that doesnt get rid of the whine, then ill take it off the charger all together and see what that does.. if thats the problem then im a retard for not trying that before.

    thanks, ill see what happens

    Common Problem

The problem you guys are having is a common problem. What you need is a "ground loop isolator" i bought one from radio crap a few years back. I think the problem lies with the two different voltages. 12volt for your car and whatever voltage your ipod uses.

It's a passive device that plugs into your rca jacks.

Here's the link for the device from radio crap

Hope this helps, if not look up ground loop noise on google.

I had the same issues when playing my PS2 through my TVs. Just install the ground loop isolator like caspah said, and it'll fix all your probs.
