Which to buy 1999 or 2000?

I am looking to buy a used corolla. looking at a couple automatic 99's and 00's any recommendations. not too concerned with power more concerned with reliability. It will mostly be driven by my wife. Is one better then the other? anything I should look at, like common problems and so on. Thanks in advance.

the 2000 has a little bit more powerful engine (+5hp, +5ft lb), otherwise they are pretty much identical.

i would get 2000 model coz of the vvt-i.
the vvt-i started in 2000 models (for canadian models anyway). more power and better gas mileage.

the 98-99 models still had the 1zz-fe, it just lacks the valvetrain of the newer corollas...

most toyota engines have both vvti/non vvti versions now..
    3sg(t)e, 2jzg(t)e, 1zzfe, 4age..
