Which is better to buy used?

I'm interested in buying either an amp (JL audio 500/1) or a sub (JL audio W6v2) used, since the regular price for both of those brand new is a bit too much. I know both can handle quite a bit but considering that I can save the same amount of money on each, both used for the same amount of time, which would be safer to buy? The amp or the sub?

Me personally, I'd buy a used amp, but probably not a used sub.

used audio equipment? absolutly. HERE is one of my favorite sites to sift through.
used car audio equipment? probably not.

why? car audio, for the most part is a world of people who push (abuse) the gear. car audio people in many cases have no idea what clipping, bottoming, or even distortion for that matter are. (nevermind what they sound like..) this stuff is hard on gear. then you add in the environment that this gear lives in, searing heat, harsh vibration, etc...

please dont be offended by my generalizations, but think of it this way: do you think the seller treated the gear the way you would?

to your original question- if i had to choose one, id take the amp.

Thanks guys, I was leaning toward the amp myself. Also I think those amps (JL 500/1) are pretty hard to screw up even if you tried.
I would hope that they treated the stuff the way I would because it was once theirs.
But the reason why I was asking about the sub is because that it is the display model for the last year at a car audio shop. So I got the feeling that it wouldn't have been abused as much because these guys know what they're doing, but then again they could've been blasting the hell out of it to impress customers and so on...so...
    haha I don't know...
Do you guys think it would be worth saving up another $300 and buying both brand new? Because the savings on each are about $300 bucks, so $600 in total.
Or should I just go ahead and get the used amp and new sub?
Or should I get both used?
    What would you do?
