    wheel weight??

From what I have gathered the 14" stock weight on my prizm is about 25 pounds so my question is if I get 17s that weigh 16-17 pounds how would that affect my acceleration and braking would it be worse or better for both..advice soon would help I am going to buy wheels soon. thanks

you gotta figure out tire weight too..

www.edgeracing.com likes to give tire weights..

i would guess your accel is gonna suck more, as well as your gas mileage.. your handling will improve tho..

they also offer light weight tires if you are really concerned with weight savings. usually it is best to go with a reinforced and grippy tire without worrying about the weight because the weight is natural and not worth taking into account.

i believe going with a light weight rim that is larger in diameter should help improve acceleration. correct me if i am wrong. even though the weight of the rim is further out, there is less weight total and on a good designed rim the weight is kept at the center of the rim to reduce the negative effects of braking and acceleration.

a 17 inch rim that weighs about 16 to 17 pounds is not bad at all from what i understand.

thats actually really good. but you';ll be looking to spend around 250+ per wheel for wheels that weight that much .. if not, i'd be very concerned. performance wheels that are lightweight and cheap are also not built well (brand shall be not named) you can hit a curb slightly and the rims will bend, and totally throw off your balance of the wheel. i learned the hard way.. dont do what i did..

ok, so the wheels weight will be ok. you will acclerate better and stop a little better. traction depends. with light weight wheels you will lose a little traction if you stop it because it doesnt take as much to spin them, but if you get some god tires you should be alright. neo-gens are GREAT tires. the brakin should be fine traction wise though because when you brake its mostly i the front (unless you yank the handbrake) and the car is gonna drop in he front, so your gona get about the same. don go for the lightweight tires, they dont have as much regidity. so, et some stifff low profiles and youll be ok
