What are all the parts I would need to turn my 98 corolla into a 5-speed?

if you're lookin into saving a little money and you have the confidence and a buddy to help, i'd say just get a tranny and needed parts from a junk yard....might as well get a short shifter instead of the stock shifter, and a harder clutch....then, get a hayne's manual/toyota shop manual and do it yourself.

this is a good idea to save money on mechanic's labor rates and i'd suggest doing it this way only if you have a decent background in fixing cars.

Your gunna need alot of little parts that are extremely hard to find. ECU's arent that costly.
    Your need:
Shift linkage - almost impossible to find
hydrolic line - hard to find
shift assembly - u can use the trd short shifter kit
pedal assembly - very hard to find
    clutch
    flywhell
    clutch master cylinder
    manual ecu
    tranny
plus alot of the small parts that may not come wit the part in the junkyard.

dont forget the lovely and costly ecu for the manual tranny :( I would do it myself but with my luck Ill totally F*** it up and well I need my car to run...but yeah if ur gonna go and do it get an upgraded clutch kit and short shifter all in once....and get a diff boot cause the one that come from stock is ugly it looks well like some plastic toy.

Would all this little stuff apply to a 93 model as well?
Also, if you found the whole car at the junk yard wouldn't the shift linkage be with it? I'm assuming that you meant that if you got just the tranny from the junk yard.

if your gunna drop that much money in the rolla u mite as well go big or else the swap aint worth it. When i say big i mean full 2zz swap with 6spd tranny. or jus swap the 6speed and go turbo. The swap will cost u close to 2gs if u dont do it yourself or if u cant find a donor car. Dealer parts aint cheap.

sell your car..then find a 5spd rolla. But im sure once u sell your car ull go another car route unless u got alot of parts on your rolla.

There's a junk yard near where i'm at and they got a whole section of corolla's. most of them are torn all to shit, but there's a few good ones.
i don't need to buy a whole car. what the hell would i do with it after i get all the parts i want off of it? i'd have to buy four cinder blocks to put the thing on.

I didnt realize it was that much money. Right now Im taking classes in automechanic technology at the college and going for my ASE certification degree. Thats why I was interested. I do know that I should get a 03 or 04 corolla but I'd like to keep my car b/c its holding up and is in great shape otherwise. I was going to possibly do it as a project. Oh well back to the drawing board I guess lol.

The manual swap project is a HUGE one...

#1 recommendation - if you do not have a full manual corolla to pull parts from you *WILL* pay through the nose for individual parts and you *WILL* find you are missing something.

I'm all ready to go on my swap - I just need to find a nice block of time and a spare ride so I can down my car for a week or so... just making sure I don't rush the project and totally screw something up.

If you want the challenge, then go for it. If you're looking for practicaliy of time and expense, Id steer you to a new torque converter. Easier project, much cheaper, and you get the desired effect of what youre looking for in the 5spd. Just my .02- but the ASE thing is good, no one will ever be able to take it from you.

yea...once you got to know what is going on..it more work than you think. its not just a clutch and the foot pedal but the little thing that make it function coretly. This field is very hard..and that good you got great ambition. IM a SAAB tech and still hard! yup.
