VVT-i is Variable Valve Timing with intelligence
VVTL-i is Variable Valve Timing and Lift with intelligence
Both engines available in the Celica are 1.8 Liter Inline 4's. The one with VVT-i makes 140hp and the one with VVTL-i makes 180hp.

The engine with VVT-i comes with either a 4 Speed automatic or a 5 Speed manual. The VVTL-i engines come with a SportShift 4 Speed automatic or a 6 Speed manual.

Both engines are quite reliable.
