Definately use a full synthetic. They prevent sludging and will keep your seals/gaskets in better shape than conventional oils.

Also be sure to get a quality oil filter. I prefer WIX but there are other good ones out there. Just stay away from Fram.

so I will be changing my oil but don't know what I should get. I know the viscosity and how much I need but I don't know if I should get all synthetic, synthetic blend, regular. I care for my car but I also know its not a ferrari or anything what do you guys put in.

don't go with synthetic blend. it's got a lower frying temperature than both regular and synthetic. 5w-30 mobil 1 for you.

true that. frams break apart in 100 miles and the paper ends up in your engine. use bosch they have the best filtering in terms of particle size as proven by several tests.

I guess this is his first oil change. I think synthetic is not recommended until certain mile since the engine is not fully break in?

yeah it will be my first oil change. am I not suppose to use full synthetic for my first oil change? I was planning on actually using the mobil 1 full synthetic and now I am little weary if I should or not. Also how long is the breaking in period. I've been so good to my car but man I just wanna let those 100 horse scream lol. I've got 850 miles on it so far and kept it under 3k I just pushed it to 4k a couple miles ago when can I break in the redline section of the engine :)

since its your first oil change use whats oil recommended and after 3,000 miles you should use any full synthetic.

Okay I drive a Corolla 2002 (same gen as 2001) auto 3 speed. I've used fram, mobil 1, and bosch oil filters in the past using 10w 40 regular penzoil. Not much difference to be felt in any way. My last oil filter was a K&N oil filter, and again using the wrong oil, 10w 40. Didn't feel much of any difference, it was more mental if anything.

And finally after hitting about 26,000 miles I've switched to full synthetic Mobil 1 oil 5w 30 (the correct recommended oil as stated on the valve cap). I paired it up with a Mobil 1 oil filter too (these things cost a lot. More so than the K&N's). This 2nd time around in using a mobil 1 oil filter, paired with full synthetic oil, the car made less mechanical sounds from the engine bay and it accelerates much faster than when it was running on 10w 40.

The only other times the car seemed to run smoother (in terms of oil/fuels) was when I filled with premium 91 octane (I done it in the past for about 2 months, out of curiousity). Right now I'm on 87 and I'm going to stay there as I don't need anything above it.
