    What makes a Corolla special?

Well Toyota is the largest car manufacturer in Japan and 2nd largest in the world after GMC...
Corolla is the most sold car in the world, Guiness World Record. period.

    I own,
    2003 Corolla 2.0 Diesel
    2005 Corolla 1.8 VVTi (1ZZ-FE)
    2005 Lancer 1.3 Auto

yet, Corollas are one of the most frequently purchased vehicles in the world, because they can be brutalized and will still run.

by the way, you mean GM, not GMC...GMC only makes trucks. ;)

Well i think they hold the ground due to their reliability.
Civic might me nimbler on curves but doesnt give the drive or comfort of a Corolla.
    Oh yeah i meant GM!

yes, that's essentially what i said...and i don't see how the current civic is any more nimble...they both feel like boats on stock suspension. neither was meant to be a sports car...they were both meant to be commuter cars.

Honda is known as a reliable brand and a lot of kids get civics or accords as their first car. Kids like to have fun in cars, especially around the teenage years, thus hot rodded civics were inevitable.

Unfortunately, the civic brand name just became synonomous with the sport compact crowd and it became difficult for other manufacturers to break into that market. The civic evolved into a sportier car because there was a demand for that. Just now, Toyota is recognizing a demand for sporty Corollas. I think because the civic is so popular and because the Corolla already sells extremely well without marketing towards the sport compact crowd, Toyota is reluctant to jump head over heels into that market by releasing a REAL performance Corolla.

I REALLY hope that Toyota will come out with a Corolla or tC model to legitimately match (or top) the performance of the new 197hp Si, but somehow I doubt they have a strong enough interest in the sport compact market.

I beat the crap out of my poor 2001 Corolla and it keeps going, so thats is why I love it and keep upgrading it :) Yesterday I finished my install of a GT25R turbo and put 40 miles on it and absolutly love it! Performance is no longer a down fall :D

Well in UK they've already given the 'Corolla Compressor'. Its a hot hatch with 1ZZ-GE same as XRS but its turbocharged giving around 225 horses...so its a match for Civic TypeR

F stands for standard car engine while G symbolises racier performance...
Just like 4AFE & 4AGE...well i can't really tell where on the planet are these 'other' two varients found...but maybe as JDMs or in close-by Asian parts :S!?!?
BTW which engine is used in Lotus Elise?

    The 2ZZGE is.

    There's no such things a 2ZZFE or a 1ZZGE. There is, however, a 3ZZFE.

then perhaps the japs might be bluffing or else....
that 3ZZ-FE is a 1.6 engine that comes in two varients, i.e. 1.6 DOHC & 1.6 DOHC VVTi.

    *snickers*

i'd still like to see the original source that CorollaGuy has...just hearing it from "alot of Japanese people" is pretty useless. how would that have any more bearing than, say, a white kid saying that Ford's coming out with some sort of funky car, when they have no visible proof? how does the ethnic background have any sort of authority?

i love when people talk out their ass...it really shows they have nothing to say, so they effectively lie instead.

which guy are you talking to? i'd be the only female here.

why be a critic? i'm skeptical. i've seen a LOT of people talk out their ass around here, and i'm sick of the misinformation.

i'd still like some legit proof from you. :)

Ah yes does your nick signify wether you're a man or a women? NO! So i didn't know that ok!? Now dont start acting critic on this one....
