What kind of power can a 4afe make with cams?

PSI Racing (http://www.psiracing.com/crowercams.html) claims that they can make cams for any engine. I've seen cams for the 4afe before, but they've been $500+. How much power can you get out of the 4/7afe with cams and is it worth the price?

Until I get the money to go FI, I reeeallly need some more power. There must be some potential in this engine somewhere...

Yeah I realize FI and NA take different types of cam profiles and compression ratios. My question was more along the lines of what kind of gains can be expected when adding cams and building the car with the intention of keeping it NA.

It was my understanding that the 4age head wasn't a direct swap to the 4afe, since the blocks aren't exactly the same. Is that not true?

From my experience with cams on a 4cyl engine, I would say no more than 15hp. The head swap has been done numerous times but I usually see them done on the ae92 corollas. Unless there has been drastic changes to the 4afe since 92 I would say it'll bolt in no prob.

First thing first, NA and FI use different cam specs. When you change out your cams you are either building your motor up for NA or FI. Since you are planning on going FI you would want cams with low duralation. If you have low duralation cams while you are still NA you would actually lose power.

What I would recommend you to do if you want a better top end is swap in a "G" head, go junkyard diving, you could prolly pick one up for less than 2 bills. There really is not much you can do with a "F" head since it was engineered as a "economy" type head.
