Toyota has some of the best names. I love Toyota Altezza, Toyota Soarer, Toyota Supra, Toyota 4 runner and so on. Ford and Dodge have some of the most awful names such as, Focus, Taurus, Caravan, Windstar etc.

the basic premise of the Mercedes naming system is class-engine displacement.
    Examples
    SL-500 SL Class, 5.0 V8

BMW is similar as well. series-engine displacement
    325 3-Series, 2.5 straight-6

    Lexus does the same.
    IS300 = IS, 3.0L straight-6

    Infiniti does the same thing.
    G35 = G, 3.5 V6.

that naming convention is simpler than giving it a name. cuz then one has to be creative. hahaha

for goodness sakes a "corolla" is the crowning part of a flower.

yeah, i think the alpha-numeric system is a lot easier, and i personally love it.

and yeah, i didn't wanna say it, but the corolla is kinda weird.

does anyone notice that jdm manufacturers name some cars that kinda resemble the word "sex" Its prolly not a coincedence that they do this. They all know americans are horny. And who usually buys these cars? Young males between the age of 18-25. And what do they like? yeah you guessed it.

example: wrx, rsx, tsx, some more i can't think of.

    Neon - self explanitory
Forrester - Does it have anything to do with forests?
Highlander - Soccar moms! Get to higher ground!
Corsica - This piece of shit has NOTHING to do with the beautiful real place.
Terraza - dunno what it means but I guess its supposed to be catchy? too bad the vehicle is butt-ugly.
Hummer - It hums? or gives head?
    Aerostar - Not hardly
Windstar - Is there such a thing?
Freestar - I think ford ran out of van names

Hehe thats a few of them. People come up with the dumbest names and toyota is included.

The best way to name cars is just how MB and BMW do it.. At least theres some meaning.

i like most of toyotas names. at least they mean something.

highlander is named after the highlanders (of scotland) and is supposed to invoke the ruggedness of teh SUV.

same with sequoia, it's named after the giant trees, shows stability i guess.

on the toyota website, there's a whole list with the meaning of every single toyota car, and many have how it got the name.

ahh..yes i've read those before. interesting. for those that either are too lazy to look themselves or can't find it:
    -----
    4Runner Combines 4-wheel drive and off-road runner
Avalon Portrays images of comfort spaciousness and sophistication
    Camry Japanese for "crown"
Celica Spanish for "heavenly" or "celestial"
Corolla The outer envelope or crowning portion of a flower
ECHO Reflects wide-open spaces and a youthful voice
Highlander Named after an inhabitant of the Scottish Highlands; conveys power, energy, and ruggedness
Land Cruiser The name implies the ability to go anywhere
    MR2 Mid-engine, Rear-wheel drive, 2 seater

the only problem is, some of those aren't really accurate.

avalon is like teh celtic heaven, also i think it's where merlin lived or something like that.

supra, u know they used it cuz it portrays being above all the other cars.

MR2 is actually midship-runabout 2 seater, though a lot of ppl would disagree with that one, but on the toyota emblems (since each model has its own emblem there) it says midship runabout 2.

ok, i guess that's really about it.

You are confusing it with superior. Supra does not mean above all the other cars. The definition given above 'to go beyond' or 'to surpass' is correct. But, hey how many cars do you know can put out 1100 HP out of just a 3 liter engine??

btw, the top secret 3sgte is 1000+ out of a 2-liter, so HA!!! lol

and i think supra means superior in like italian

Some of the funniest names are those from Spanish...some of my least favorite
Hombre and Amigo from Isuzu. Rodeo...basically all Isuzu names are stupid. Yah, the Mercedes naming system really gets on my nerves too. Any great car needs a good name.

Some good ones that come from Spanish are
    Trueno
    Levin
    Thunder and Lightning...Clever.

Toyota really does have some good names for their cars.

in japan .. and in europe since they didnt get the BIG accord. well in japan they put is as inspire.. and in oz and in South East Asia they still call it accord since they dont actually sell the accord euro unless u import one.

So in USA.. TSX is the replacement for integra sedan. weird,.. not many country get integra sedan.
