So me and my cousin got into an argument about which camera was better, my PnS Sony H7 or her SLR Canon Rebel Xti. Obviously, her's is better. We agreed to that much, but she claimed she could take better pictures than I could, which was kind of a mistake on her part, lol. She thinks that the camera can do all the work for her cuz she doesn't really know how to use her camera that much. Anyways, we went out to this place nearby and took pictures of a waterfall, got back and edited them and compared them. We printed them both out and showed our family. She has hers on her flash drive and I didn't get to copy it but she uses Photoshop. I use this weird photo editor that has limited options that came with my computer and also used MS Paint to frame it, which looks pretty ghetto btw. We showed it to our family without telling them who took what and they all agreed mine was better, lol. Anyways, here's what I took...it was actually too bright to take a decent picture (5pm). I personally think I made the picture too green, but thats okay I guess. I put it up on my flickr account and I got invites the next day to post it in their private photo groups, lol..

Good job. That just goes to show that its the photographer, not the equipment that makes a good picture. That applies to other things as well. Nice waterfall picture. Where's is this waterfall?

Sahoma Lake (aka Pretty Water Lake) in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. It's actually like a 5 foot water fall and very easy to miss, lol.

send the raw file to me: mark@skyace2004.com and ill show you what some good Post Processing can do. And yah, your right on the fact that alot of people buy expensive cameras and just leave them on AUTO mode thinking that the gear is going to give them amazing photos. Not the case 90% of the time.

My camera doesn't shoot in RAW...JPEG compression owns my camera and sucks to say the least. Her advantage is that she just took a photoshop class and i've never used photoshop. But oh well, I sent you the picture anyways, SkyAce.

I used exposure priority mode, 1/15 sec, f8, ISO80, 0/10EV, and 24.7mm. That was the slowest shutter speed I could use without overexposing the shot cuz it was so bright out.

^true, that looks like 5-8 seconds at the least

Neway, I like what you did. It doesnt look as bright and accentuates its natural beauty. You did that in photoshop, yes?

yeah it is 30 second and I want to make the lights more warm lighting plus I had my tripod on it. I also used 30 second for mulit car go passing by.

I only add dark lighting for the sky and the rest are natural from my camera.

if its 5-8 second, you will see a blur vehicle going by and I had tried it.....I didn't like it.
25-30 sec was the best for me.

Like this one....25 second and you can't see any car but their headlight.

no actually, i used a program called lightroom. you should look into it. its a VERY handy program to use for post processing images. I dropped the exposure quite a bit so the highlights wernt blown out, i saturated the green and blue a tad and added some recovery. There wasnt much to work with in that picture, but it has alot more detail then the orig. and its not as saturated as your attempt.

those are some nice pictures but they are just too yellow. I know the street lights cast that color, but you gotta fix your white balance.
