so in terms of having a good future, parts support, and overall performance, which would be better? cuz im hearing that vvtl-i is too close to its limit already while the vvt-i has hecka more potential

    VVTL-i vs VVTi

Anyone know whether it is possible to use an existing vvti and mod it to a VVTL-i?
I know it would be way smarter and probably cheaper to go buy the engine or just get an XRS but Im just curious.

vvtli is a completely different process
it actually alters valve lift at a certain rpm, thats the reason for the louder intake noise.

vvti is a constant system that adjusts overlap and duration throughout the whole powerband, but does not change valve lift

The same can be done to the 1ZZ-FE. Although the head might affect it's performance since it's a "F". And I think there's more VVT-i engines than VVTL-i because it's cheaper to build.

You can't look at it from a technology perspective because the VVTL-i > VVT-i. Look at it from an engine perspective, the 2ZZ-GE would be good if you want N/A power. The 1ZZ-FE would be good if you want boost because of it's lower compression ratio. Now between the two I would choose the 2ZZ-GE because many different sport oriented cars are being powered by this engine. So the aftermarket for it should be better.

vvtli is going to be better for street applications due to its low end economy and high end power.

strictly vvti isnt performance based, but it allows for a more controlled and linear power delivery as opposed to the jeckyl and hyde power delivery of vvtli

so its pretty much a toss up on your part as to which will net the most power.

with an unlimited budget? go turbo a vvtl-i :) it'll be very expensive, but it'll be nice. the 2zz can take F/I... you just have to use extra caution at the cam shift. I believe there were plenty of type-R's with turbos :) it's nate! woah!

haha yah if i do i'd do that too. wiseco makes low compression pistons for the 2zz-ge. then crower makes connecting rods. haha dont u think that's gonna make the 2zz-ge safer for boost?

i juss brought up cuz a lot of people tend to favor vvt-i more and they said toyota is not gonna put more emphasis on vvtl-i thats why there's more vvt-i engines.

yup like my other car's 4A-FE in contrast to 4A-GE. F is economy head and G is performance head

the vvtl-i is better in my opinion. the 2zz can be a supercharged 1zz stock to stock. plus most people only do headers, exhaust and intake. with that you will be around 170-180 to the wheels on the 2zz.

[reading] Cool I did-not know what the F and G were. Anyone know what the the 1 and 2 are for? Or is that just because they are different series engines, like take 1, take 2. lol

1 and 2 are the generation number, not the series.
    ZZ is the engine series
G and F are the head
    E is electronic fuel injection

FIY, Z is supercharge and T is turbo, and I think X is Hybrid. :)

Ha! Knowing Toyota, that'll never happen. Sorry to burst your bubble.
