vvt-i vs. vvtL-i?

    hi all.

i was thinkin about doing an engine swap to 1mz-fe and i was wondering if i should wait to get the vttL-i, will it have a significant gain over the vtt-i?

basically, vtt-i is variable timing for the cam, and the vttL-i is kind of like VTEC where high end will have its own lift/duration corect?

    thanks

VVT-i gradually pulls harder as you rev up, Lift is like a swift kick in your ass at 6400 rpms that continues to redline. The car suddenly gets a surge of power and feels like a different motor, all of a sudden when lift engages.

The advantage of this is tremendous power at high rpms, with great gas milage and practical power at lower rpms. I rarely rev past 4K rpms daily driving, but love hitting the onramps and flying past other imports that can't keep up.

vvt-i is variable valve timing with intelligence... basically it uses the oil pressure to constantly vary the valves timing (hence the name) the 1zz-fe motor has this and it's just run on the intake side. vvtl-i found in the 2zz-ge utulizes the same thing, but at 6400rpm(?) it varies the exhaust side of it also which gives you that in your seat feeling. Same as vtec, but thers doesnt continuously vary below lift

So, does that mean that vvtl-i is better than vvt-i? If so, is it on the performance or the efficiency end?

    vvtl-i is better. A stock XRS w/ vvtl-i pushes about 170hp, a stock S w/ vvt-i pushed about 130hp.
