very new newbie! help me out plz!

hey guys, i own a 2001 corolla. i'm not as knowledgable as you guys about my engine parts and everything, i'm currently doing research as much as i can. haha, as i am only a junior in high school... i have a couple of questions:

my rolla' is COMPLETELY stock. first of all, i want more sound quality AND performance out of this engine... what can i do that would be cheap, with minor improvements, yet nothing significant? I have no idea what to do, i currently became inspired after seeing this forum :) many of my friends ridicule the fact that i'm driving an "economic car"... haha so any ideas?

sound quality as in wat? sound system or engine sound?

performance.. ur not going to get much out of ur car. an intake gives a little to non boost, and muffler is the only other mod available for our cars. TRD muffler, and an intake is about it basically.
You can do more looks type of thing.
Sound system isn't hard on our cars.

also, is turbo a good idea? i found out that i would get about 56% increase in HP. and with turbo, i'm guessing engine sound will significantly improve?

is this link's turbo legit for the 01' corolla?: http://www.turbo-kits.com/corolla_turbo_kits.html

if u can spend that much money.... then hell ya! It'll sound sick. There's a few people on this board and vvt-i.net that have turbos and/or in the process of putting one in. Ask them more about it.
Engine sound u can't get much out of it. Cold air intakes are extremely rare for our cars. EL prototypes makes one but they hard insanely hard to contact now and no other company makes one. Short ram intakes only change sound a little. Get a full catback exhaust wit a trd muffler and thats all that u can do with out going turbo

welcome dude, and well man the only way that you'll get true performance out of a Corolla is by turbo. I'm boosting mine here within the next 2-3 months. My set up is going to be all custom made, none of that turbokits.com kits have I've heard they're junk. and well engine sound wise, our 1zz-fe motors are loud stock as is it's crazy lol

IF you just want the engine to "sound" more better. go get you one of those turbo sirens that blows offs. not to bash but why make a engine sound better there is no performance in that.

Hey kid if your only 17 and want to drive a fast car save some money and go to race school, i did it made my driving much safer and my reaction is faster.
And yeah about the mod thing like engine sound&power you just might wanna buy a 60 dollar tornado it forces more air to the engine,a TRD not K&N reusable air filter
a nice priced i mean a kinda expensive exhaust like Borla,Magnaflow,TRD,Thermal R&D are one of the best for your corolla $500 for the "sound" you like, its gonna sound more of a GTO than a crappy Civic i know cuz my cuz's Integra sounds like someone crapping. and last but not least wear a seatbelt dont drive while talking on the phone, follow the traffic rules you know speed limit, you can go fast on your nearby racetrack but not on the streets life is not a big need for speed game you know and last but not lease "DON'T DO DRUGS"

All I know dude is don't do stupid stuff like that, mostly around school and when you have people in the car, a couple mins of fun ain't worth the lives of others man keep that in mind, lots of people got killed at my school cause of dumb stuff like that so think safe bro. I'm 17 as well but already graduated THANK GOD! lol and well man about the tornado thing DO NOT get that, they're just trying to take your money since it doesn't do anything. Toyota motors are known to lack of torque stock but if you were to rebuild and bore your motor to a 2.0 the numbers on torque will push up nicely and mostly when u turbo obviously. I'd say stick with it stock for a while, save up and turbo in w/e amount of time it takes you to get the cash, it's better than buying a TRD muffler and drop in filters that won't give you any power

haha thanks for all the advice.

    i have yet another question.

this concerns the driving of my car. I notice that starting from rest, if i floor the gas, it starts out really slow and gets to the high rpms pretty slow. but if i push the gas for a little and get to about 2000ish rpm and THEN floor it, its MUCH faster, i reach the high rpms much quicker. so driving school sounds like a nice idea :) anyways, any tips? also, cuz our cars are front wheel drive, i heard it wouldn't be really a good idea to drift on corners, due to understeer, or spinning out. ironically my #54-in-the-nation high school exists in the city area - ghetto. so when i go off campus during lunch, i usually bust out full force with my friend in the 'hood -_-. (he drives a vtec civic) .. now on corners, i don't slow down that much, but amazingly i still make the turns... just a little skidding.. are there any tips on how i should manuever these turns? there are one-way loops, regular turns, etc. (once again its a suburbish area) lol ALSO..... theres this HUGE bump in the side of a road, that i can get a little air off of... i have 4 other ppl in the car with me... and my friend in the civic behind me tells me i don't bottom out.... is this a bad idea? would this fuck up my suspension?

LONG POST... but i could use the help guys! :)

hmm kind of the same problem.. very few parts out there for corollas >< i dont really know all that much about the corolla but what about the universal ECUs or fuel regulators out there? *HKS* only performance parts i can find other than that are short ram intake, high flow cats *kinda hard to do with the corolla though..* universal mufflers, brake pads, slotted rotors, and suspension but thats about it. Hope they really do start tuning corollas.
But what aobut swapping for the 2ZZE in the celica GTS?

Right about now, skyline_r34, you might want to retract your statement about everyone knowing so much.

The "Tornado" doesn't force more air into the engine-- it's not a forced induction system.

The EPA has tested countless devices similar to this one, and no beans. Don't waste your money. If your friends laugh at your economy car now, they'll really laugh if you waste your money on one of those things.

    Hello All,

My name is Jesse Pellegatto. I am the GM of Turbo Kits.com and want to let everyone know if they have any quesitons about the kits we sell that we are there to help.

    To set the record straight
    1) The kit are not made by Turbo Kits.com. They are TSI kits. TSI is the manufacturer. We are a retail store that sells their parts as well as many others.
    2) If someone got screwed buying a TSI kit I can assure you it wasn't from us. Custom service is our #1 priority.

Let me know if anyone has any questions...
