Vamp's built engine install progress (updated with pics)

Pics from this weekend. First, the damage from the old engine.

Here's a shot of the engine bay after towing it to my parents' house.

The upper hole hit and cracked the power steering pump, most likely causing the fire.

The AC pump saved the radiator from the two chunks of block that came off the front.

The camshaft timing chain gear lost a tooth.

This caused the chain to jump and bent the camshaft positioning socket.

The oil pickup got hit by flying rod as well. Note the piece of block still attached.

The underside doesn't look too pretty.

There must have been 150 small chunks and shavings of metal in the pan.

    Here's the fire damaged area.

And now some new engine pics.

Sleeves installed and bored out from 79mm to 82mm.

    Deep dished 8.8:1 pistons.

    Crower rods with MWR bearings.

I'll need to take an underside shot of the head showing the new valves.

This is a modified 2ZZ-GE head gasket.

A shot of the new valves installed.

Reinstalling the cams after getting the head bolted on.

Steve needed to use three extensions and an impact to get stuck bolt out.

The engine and transmission are finally out.

Time to sit and relax for a few.

    Ouch!!!

Nice pics and let this be a warning to everyone, This is no iron block, build it real good before attempting to boost it, it'll be more cost effective!!

Did you get all your problems solved, blow back issues and everything?? If yes why was it doing so and how did you solve the thing?

Nice piston and sleeve kit man, looks real good on your new block. Keep us inform on your build.

Thanks. The blow by was from a clog in the oil catch can. I got a new DC3 catch can to fix that problem (you can find a link to the site on my websites FAQ page). The install might be put on hold because I have to move over the next couple of weekends, so time is limited :(.

Hey Vamp, did you coat your pistons with a high temperature coating like Swain's?

I swapped out my 1ZZ water pump for a more efficient 2ZZ one.

I haven't tested it since I put the turbo on, but my friends turbo 97 passed emissions without any probs.

That is a killer setup, what size turbo and wastegate and what psi are you set for?

T3/T4, 38mm wastegate, and I think I'll run it around 20 psi on pump gas if possible. Won't know till it's in and tuned.
