    Valve cover painting?

Has anyone here painted or powdercoated there valve cover? How did it turn out? I broke some of my bold holding the plastic shoud on and I think I would rather paint the valve cover, maybe even sand it down and grid off some of the bolt spots for the cover to make it really smooth first. I think it would look pretty good. If you got pics of your painted valve cover post them up.

I just used regular paint for my valve cover, and that was over 2 years ago and I havent had any problems with it cracking, fading, bubbling, etc. Some say to use high heat caliper paint or engine paint.

Ill post up a pic soon:)

it all depends on how you prep it and how much paint (and quality of paint) you put on them.

i did the covers on my 4agze with regular semi-gloss black..... not high heat, and the intercooler sits right on top of them. no problems so far

pictures aren't up, i think they're on my other computer

Cool, so even without high heat your doing just fine. Thats good to know. How many coats of paint did it take to get complete coverage and did you have to use primer first?

I think I did between 3 and 4 coats. Never had a problem. I didn't use high heat, I used the stuff that is tolerant to heats up to...I wanna say 500 degrees. I don't remember what its called but it worked really well....no cracking or anything of that sort.

Nice, did you have a spare valve cover to paint before hand or did you just take yours off and paint it and toss it back one once the paint cured?

Nice! When you took the valve cover off did you need to replace any gaskets to put it back on?

You dont really need the valve cover, at least in the VW applications....I sanded and primered mine before painting it

Awesome, I didn't realize that you could reuse it. I'm going to have to put this on my list of things to do now.

    i polish mine.

better if you take it off and sand it with a lower grit sandpaper and move up to higher grits. and use high temp. paint, give it about 2 coats and let it dry.

but over times, the paint will peal. atleast mine did.
