    joel (civiceater, s8n, tamago) put a 2zz-ge oil filter on his 1zz and everything worked fine. obviously you will have to put in a little more oil due to the extra volume, but there is no downside.

    on the other hand, he reported a benefit: vvti seemed to like the extra oil and the car seemed to be a little bit more powerful and responsive. the original thread title was "vvti oil thirsty?" or someything like that.

    please verify, joel?

    hope that helped.

    I have noticed, ESPECIALLY when the engine is heating up (highway or hard driving), that when I stomp the gas, oil pressure will momentarily drop about 3-5psi and come back up, then when letting off the gas suddenly, the same thing happens. I can only assume that it is the VVT-i oil control valve diverting oil and causing a momentary change in oil pressure.

    using a larger oil filter....

    What would be the impact of using a larger oil filter? I was comparing the Purolator L14476 (OE filter) and the L14477. The L14477 is longer (about an inch), but thread and mount gasket are identical.

    I used the larger 4AGE filter on my 7AFE for the 97. Figure a slightly bigger filter is a good thing.

    mmm i would think a bigger filter is better. as long as it flows the same or better. that would be the only thing i would worry about. flow characteristics.
