Use Old Satellite Dish as Wireless Transmitter

    Hey Everyone,
I hope someone can help me here. I have an old Dish Network Satellite dish that I wanted to use to transmit my wireless signal so I can get wireless access at a restraunt that about a block away. Does anyone know how to hook up something like that??

    Thanks. :)

you need a dish, cantenna, and a wifi card with a coax connector.

google cantenna and you'll see lots of instructions. you put the cantenna where the sat receiver sat on the end of the stick aimed at the dish.

it is really directional but you can expect about 10dB gain or better, netstumbler helps tune it with the signal strength meter

Do I need to build the BiQuad thing for it

I mean, I don't know much about this wireless stuff, but I am certain I can do it with the dish.

Do I need to buy a cantenna and hook it up the the satellite dish??

usually you build a cantenna. all the ones I've seen had a single wire that stuck up and collected the signal

Well I don't want to collect the signal, I want to transmit it so I can pick it up farther. And if anyone has some Links to DIY's that would be awesome.
