The starter is on top of the transmission in front of the engine block. Maybe you have a short in your ignition wiring harness?

The plunger is staying engaged, It will damage the flywheel. Starter replacement should do the trick just try to get a good one. Re-Mans can be total junk.

They can be repaired if you have a local shop. Contact kits and clean plunger.

Has it been on occassion clicking and not starting before this happened ?

Yea i would go to turn the key and nothing would happen and that was 2 days ago. then it got worse... and then today when I went to put in my new battery I turned the car on and it made this aweful sound like clicking.... then I turned the car off and it stayed like that. Then I took the negative off the battery and put it back on (without the key in the ignition) and it kept clicking. So I tapped on the starter lightly and it stopped. Hopefully that's all I needed to do. =\ I don't want to buy a new starter.

I would be very careful !!! If you were getting a single click with each attempt to start it was more than likely the starter contacts worn. And the plunger could stick again. Keep a close eye and ear on the situation !

Smash on it with a hammer and then try it again. I once had a starter in my old truck do this and I beat it silly until it disengaged and then it never happened again :) Actually maybe you should just buy a new starter :)

yea, had the same problem.. the solenoid were stuck on ended up almost burning out the starter motor. The best thing to do is replace the whole assembly, its a easy enough job to diy.
