    Upgrading Audio System in 9th-Gen ('05 S-Type)

So my buddy wants to upgrade his audio in his '05 Corolla S-Type. I'm not sure if he's got the JBL system or not, but he's got 6 speakers (tweets in the sail panels). Typically I recommend to people to upgrade the HU first, then speakers if necessary. I drive a Subaru Impreza so don't know the audio quality of the Corolla. Are the stock speakers any good? If we upgrade the HU will they be able to handle the ~22W RMS the HU outputs (I wouldn't have him amp the system until better speakers are in)?

Any recommendations would be helpful. I'm going to have him start looking at Pioneer and Alpine on Crutchfield.com so he can get the free install/wiring kits. ;) Thanks ahead of time!

The stockers are garbage... I would upgrade both HU and speakers at the same time.

And don't call it an S-Type, just reading that automatically made me think of Jaguar.

At least he didn't say Type S like a Honda. LOL :D
