    TWM fit problem (56k beware)

big pictures used to give better view, sorry :)

so i have a bit of slop in the ball of my TWM shifter. you can see the gap in between the ball and the socket here:

I believe the reason is the hold down ring isn't seating properly. there didnt used to be a gap between the ring and the base IIRC:

anyone else have this slop or know how to cure it?

The top socket half needs to be pushed down all the way and properly seated on the base. Tap it down with a hammer on a flat piece of wood around the top.

thats what i thought. it has been hammer tapped, channel lock squeezed, masaged begged and cajuiled to seat further down and it refuses to budge.

at this point i feel i should remove it again and see if there is some obstruction underneith it, but im going ot need another star clip as i will surly break the one thats on there removing it...

any other thoughts or is that the answer?

You might be able to pull the clip off again without breaking it. I have taken mine off 2-3 times and haven't broken it, it actually popped right off. And when reassembling it, put the star screw in last after you know the top has been put firmly in place.
