    Turbo vs. Scharger

    Does anyone have suggestions?

I LOVE the sound of a turbo spooling up, but TRD offers a supercharger that will not void my warranty. On the other hand, the supercharger only gives you 36 horsies. :) Also, it coasts so damn much for that little output, and it seems that you have to buy the vehicle installation kit to go with it. :(

This topic is getting kind of old and repetative... since nobody wants to use the search button.

If you look at the 03-04's who are turbo'd and supercharged... they are running the same quarter mile times. Actually The quickest time I've seen on paper is from a s/c'd Corolla, not a turbo'd. That 36ish HP is a base number... your intake that is getting you about 3hp right now will give you over 15 after supercharged (dyno proven over at mo.com). So there is 50hp above stock right there and we havent even touched water injection or exhaust yet.

The "install kit" is actually the ECU upgrade, they separated them so you can opt to go the way of your own ECU. I hate people that look at the base numbers of the s/c and assume its crap... after I get my AIC (that means additional injector controller) and a tune I should be well into the 14's and it's a hell of a lot more reliable than a custom turbo setup.

Yeah I can't wait to hit the dyno, but I have to finish my exhaust first. (Full 3" exhaust from the turbo back. Magnaflow cat, and Flowmaster 40 series muffler. Should be done in the next week or to, I'm doing it myself. Finally I won't have an exhaust leak anymore. (between d/p and midpipe).

Well there ya go Paolino....if i were u, since they produce just about the same gains, id take the s/c...i mean it wouldnt effect your warranty so it would be the the most logical way to go IMO...plus, put aside the hot sound of a bov, i cant help but love the whining sound of s/c's....

I agree, especially as a daily dricen car, s/c over turbo. But I have a major hold up about the TRD kit. NO I/C. Water injection or not, it's just too much of a hinderance to make it worth upgrading, especially on an already high compression engine. In 1/4 mile time, a properly tuned turbo will always beat a S/C because of the top end potential of a turbo engine. Check out the torque arguement we've been having, and you'll understand better. I don't think the TRD kit is crap, but by the time your done upgrading, holy shit did you spend a lot of money!
